‘The Princess Bride’ & ‘A Few Good Men’ Casts Pay Tribute to Rob Reiner: “No Words…”

People are continuing to share their condolences after the deaths of director and his wife, Michele. They were found dead at their home on Sunday, and their son has been arrested in connection with the case. Many actors who worked with the director, including stars from his popular 1980s fantasy film, have expressed their sadness on social media.

Cary Elwes, known for playing Westley in The Princess Bride, shared a photo from the movie on Instagram with the simple caption, “No words…” Fred Savage, who was ten years old during filming, also posted on Instagram, saying he felt “lucky to have been a part” of the beloved adventure film.

I met him in a Chicago audition room, and he gave me a chance to work on a project that became far more successful than anyone predicted. It’s amazing to think that the two weeks we spent filming on a small set at Shepperton Studios ended up having such a lasting impact. His work was a true gift, and I’m grateful I got to be involved.

Chris Sarandon shared on Instagram that the passing of Rob and Michele had a profound impact on him, writing, “Changed my life. Rest in peace, Rob and Michele.” Meanwhile, Mandy Patinkin, who famously played Inigo Montoya in the film, released a statement to Entertainment Weekly saying…

It’s hard to make sense of this terrible tragedy, especially with so much loss. It leaves you wondering what’s happening to the world and to people in general.

During the filming of the iconic scene in The Princess Bride where Inigo finally defeats the six-fingered man, director Rob Reiner repeatedly asked me to tone down my performance. It wasn’t until later, when I couldn’t sleep, that I understood what he wanted: he wanted the pain of my character’s broken heart to shine through, not just his rage. Now, I hear Rob urging us all to do the opposite – to increase our efforts. He wants us to heal what’s broken – our own hearts, our communities, and the world. He wants us to honor those who are no longer here to fight for a better future by continuing their struggle, by living fully, and by raising our voices for them.

‘A Few Good Men’s Kevin Bacon Close to Tears While Paying Tribute to Rob Reiner

Several actors from another popular Rob Reiner film, A Few Good Men, have also shared tributes following the news. In a video posted to Instagram, he appeared emotional while speaking about Reiner’s kindness and ability to foster a positive and enjoyable atmosphere on set.

I’ll never forget getting a call from Rob Reiner – it was sometime in the ’90s, and he offered me a job on ‘A Few Good Men’! As a huge movie fan, I was absolutely ecstatic. And honestly, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ has always been my all-time favorite film, so getting to work with him was a dream come true. Being on set with Rob was just fantastic; it was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my career.

The actor, who appeared with Tom Cruise in the legal thriller, shared on Instagram their deep sadness about the loss of Rob and Michelle Reiner, saying they were devastated and struggling to find the right words.

We shared so much with this family – our children grew up together, and we worked closely with them over the years. I’ll always treasure the personal and professional connections we made and the wonderful memories we created. They were truly amazing people and dedicated parents who always worked to make a positive impact on the world.
