A beloved game, popular with over 15 million players, is getting a major update in 2026. Remakes are common, and 2025 saw plenty of them, because people love revisiting classic games. As long as players keep buying and enjoying these updated versions, publishers will continue to release them – and that’s great news for fans of this incredibly popular indie title.
Team Cherry, the creators of Hollow Knight, announced they’re releasing an enhanced version of the game in 2026, with a version also planned for the new Nintendo Switch 2. This is exciting news for fans of both Hollow Knight and its upcoming sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Hollow Knight has been a huge success in the indie game world, winning many awards. Silksong introduces new gameplay features and improved graphics, and these improvements will be incorporated into the upgraded Hollow Knight version – it’s not a complete remake, but a significant update.
Hollow Knight Is Getting the Silksong Treatment

Team Cherry recently thanked the millions of players who have been enjoying Hollow Knight: Silksong and shared a preview of its major first expansion, Sea of Sorrow, which will add new areas, bosses, and tools to the game. The biggest news was the announcement that Hollow Knight is being developed for the Switch 2, incorporating all the improvements already available in Silksong on that platform – including smoother gameplay, higher resolutions, and enhanced graphics. This upgraded version will be a free download for anyone who owns Hollow Knight on the Switch when it releases in 2026.
As of today, there’s no confirmed release date for the game, but it’s expected sometime in 2026 – likely within the next year. While the developers are working on the new release, they’re also improving the original Hollow Knight on all platforms with new features and bug fixes. Any enhancements made for the new game will also be added to Hollow Knight, helping to bring both titles up to date. If you can’t wait for the official updates and you own Hollow Knight on Steam or GOG, you can access them right now.
PC players can start enjoying the latest updates immediately through the public beta versions on Steam and GOG. These updates add support for 16:10 and 21:9 screen sizes, which is great for Steam Decks and ultrawide monitors. The announcement also included news about collectible mini-figures of Hornet and other characters, which are now available for pre-order. Hollow Knight is available on Windows, Linux, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and players on all these platforms should receive the update shortly.
