
The director is trying something new with their next film, a large-scale action fantasy. Recently released photos offer a first look at several key actors and hint at their important roles in the eagerly awaited movie.
The recently released images showcase the cast of the upcoming film, including Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, and Himesh Patel, giving fans a fresh glimpse at this adaptation of Homer’s classic story, The Odyssey. Director Christopher Nolan, fresh off his Academy Award wins for Oppenheimer, is now exploring a more fantastical genre with this film, which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and follows his decade-long journey home after the Trojan War.
Check out the new images below! They feature Damon as Odysseus, fully costumed (though not entirely historically accurate), with two of his soldiers, including Himesh Patel as Eurylochus. EW also shared photos of Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Telemachus (Odysseus’s wife and son), as well as an actor playing Antinous, one of Penelope’s many suitors. You can also see director Christopher Nolan on set with one of his signature IMAX cameras.

The new film, The Odyssey, tells the story of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the movie boasts an incredible cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and many other well-known actors like Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Elliot Page. With such a star-studded lineup, director Christopher Nolan is clearly aiming for a truly epic film, adding even more talent to the already impressive roster.
The Odyssey is scheduled to land in theaters on July 17, 2026, courtesy of Universal Pictures.
