UNDERWARD coming to Switch 2 on December 18

INTENSE is launching the cooperative horror game UNDERWARD for Switch 2 on December 18th. The game will include the version 2.0 update, “LASTBOSS, Genius Gyaru Doctor,” which was originally released in September, and will also support cross-play.

UNDERWARD first launched for PC via Steam on February 5, followed by PlayStation 5 on June 22.

Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:

About

UNDERWARD is a one-to-four-player cooperative horror exploration game.

Investigators must carry “TEST-SUBJECT” monsters from a deadly underground abandoned hospital ward.

Can you uncover the truth hidden deep within the depths of UNDERWARD?

Single Play: An Extreme Stealth Challenge

You can also play UNDERWARD by yourself, but be careful—playing solo is extremely difficult. If you get caught, the game ends immediately. Expect to fail a lot and learn from your mistakes as you keep trying to move forward.

(Version 1.0.2.0 introduced extra lives and solo play adjustments for a better experience.)

Without the option to easily move multiple items at once, you’ll need to be very careful when carrying anything, always worried about enemies attacking. This creates a really exciting and tense experience where you have to avoid being seen, watch for traps, and move slowly and cautiously. Although it’s different from playing with others, this mode is ideal for anyone wanting a genuinely scary and thrilling horror game.

Mission

Explore the depths of UNDERWARD and carry the “TEST-SUBJECT” monsters to the elevator.

Step 1: Search “Test Subjects”

Once you exit the elevator, scour the floor for “TEST-SUBJECT.”

Be careful—there are traps and hazards all around. Some parts of the area and certain devices require teamwork to use. It’s usually safer to stick with your team than to go off on your own.

When I’m exploring, I always make sure to scavenge everything! I hit up all the lockers, shelves, and any place something could be hidden – you never know what useful tools people left behind. Sometimes, if I’m really lucky, I even find some seriously high-tech gear!

Step 2: If They See You, Run or…

There’s a chance you will encounter unknown enemies during your search.

These creatures are drawn to sound, so it’s important to be careful and quiet. If you remain hidden and silent, they might walk by without seeing you. Be flexible and adjust your approach based on what’s happening.

If they see you, run away as quickly as possible! Try throwing anything you have at them – it could give you a chance to escape.

Even if someone gets taken down, there’s still hope for rescue.

Okay, so I can always see where my teammates are on the screen, which is awesome. That means I need to react fast and not panic! Keeping everyone alive isn’t just about winning, it actually makes us work better as a team, which is super important.

But remember: the window for rescue is shrinking by the second.

Step 3: Carry and Carry and Carry!

Once you’ve found “TEST-SUBJECT,” carry it to the elevator with all your might.

Carrying the capsule creates a lot of noise, attracting enemies, so stay vigilant.

One player can’t carry the large capsule by themselves, but if multiple players work together using a “Connected Carry,” they can move it quickly enough to outpace enemies.

However, if your teamwork falters, it could mean a one-way ticket to the afterlife.

Each “TEST-SUBJECT” has a different value.

We hope the team can retrieve the most valuable “TEST-SUBJECT” possible.

Then… Deeper into the “UNDERWARD”

After you’ve confirmed enough people have recovered, begin verifying the “TEST-SUBJECTS.” We’ll then move the elevator to the next floor, so please have the investigators close the doors and wait inside.

We deeply appreciate the investigators who are brave enough to explore the most hazardous levels.

…Please note that we do not guarantee the safety of your life on this mission.
