A KPop Demon Hunters Video Game Is Probably Inevitable, So Here’s What It Should Look Like

You’ve probably heard of KPop Demon Hunters by now – it’s the animated Netflix film about K-pop stars who fight demons, and it’s become a surprise hit in 2025. Netflix has already announced a sequel, and just like with Stranger Things, they’re starting to release a lot of related merchandise. Knowing Netflix, it’s also likely they’re planning a video game based on the film.

Netflix hasn’t officially announced plans for a KPop Demon Hunters video game. They’ve even seemed to pull back from gaming recently, like when they sold Spry Fox. However, considering the success of games based on Stranger Things and Squid Game, and Netflix’s past attempt to acquire Warner Bros.’ gaming division, it’s likely someone at Netflix has considered turning the movie into a game. Netflix’s previous gaming efforts haven’t always been successful, so I’m exploring whether a KPop Demon Hunters game could actually be well-received.

Netflix Has a History of Trying to Capitalize on Its Biggest IP with Game Spin-offs & KPop Demon Hunters Could Be Next

Netflix has created some incredibly popular shows like Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and Squid Game, which have become valuable assets for the company. They’ve really capitalized on these hits, launching all sorts of related products – from Stranger Things cereal to *Bridgertonthemed bath bombs. Netflix has also been trying to expand into gaming, releasing mobile games based on their popular shows. While these games haven’t been hugely successful so far, Netflix isn’t giving up on the idea.

As of today, Netflix members can play mobile games inspired by popular Netflix series, including:

  • Squid Game: Unleashed
  • Stranger Things: 1984
  • Stranger Things 3: The Game
  • Nailed It! Baking Bash
  • Black Mirror: Thronglets
  • Netflix Stories: Love is Blind
  • The Ultimatum: Choices
  • The Queen’s Gambit Chess

Notice a trend? Netflix’s most popular shows often get spin-off games. Their Netflix Games library already features popular mobile titles, like my favorite, Bloons Tower Defense 6. Netflix clearly likes to create mobile games based on its hit series, and that suggests KPop Demon Hunters could be the next one. The big question is: will the game live up to what fans are hoping for?

What an Actually Good KPop Demon Hunters Video Game Could Be Like

Like a lot of people, I’ve had the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack stuck in my head ever since I checked out the movie. The songs are super catchy, and the film itself is really enjoyable. It feels like the unique art style and story would be perfect for a video game – but it needs to be a proper, full-fledged game like the adaptations we used to get. Definitely not a simple puzzle game just using the KPop Demon Hunters branding (like that unofficial mobile game already out there). We need a game with solid gameplay and good graphics, not just something trying to make money off the movie’s popularity.

Netflix usually releases spin-off games only for mobile devices, but that might be shifting. Mobile games are also becoming more complex, with titles like Destiny Rising now offering surprisingly detailed role-playing experiences. While I’d love to see a KPop Demon Hunters game on consoles, I’m trying to be realistic about what’s likely to happen.

I believe a potential KPop Demon Hunters game would work best as either a prequel or a sequel. While retellings can be successful, they generally suit longer formats like movies or TV shows. The KPop Demon Hunters story is concise and already well-known to fans. Exploring the history of HUNTR/X or what happens after the film’s events would be much more engaging than simply recreating the existing story in a game.

When thinking about what kind of game this could be, several options come to mind. Because music is so central to the story, incorporating rhythm game elements – maybe playing as the members of HUNTR/X and hitting notes to save the Honmoon – could be really fun. However, with the awesome weapons the characters use, the game needs to have action-packed combat. I envision intense battles against demons! The best approach would be to combine a strong narrative with both rhythm game mechanics and exciting action sequences, staying true to the movie’s vibe while also telling a new story within that world.

Okay, so a KPop Demon Hunters game? Don’t hold your breath. I heard the sequel to the show is still a ways off, and games just take so much longer to make than even animated movies. Still, I wouldn’t be shocked if Netflix is already brainstorming a game, or maybe even quietly building one as we speak.
