For more than 25 years, Kevin James has been a consistently funny presence in entertainment. Whether through his stand-up, popular TV shows like The King of Queens and Kevin Can Wait, or hit movies such as Grown Ups and Hitch, he’s established himself as a leading comedic actor. Now, fans can enjoy two of his most hilarious films streaming on Peacock.
Peacock added both Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 to its streaming library on December 1st. The films star Kevin James as Paul Blart, a dedicated mall security guard and single dad who unexpectedly becomes a hero when a robbery occurs. In the second movie, Blart enjoys the perks of his newfound fame but accidentally stumbles upon a dangerous plot targeting the Wynn Las Vegas hotel.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop Is a Low-Brow Comedy With Heart
Okay, so Paul Blart: Mall Cop definitely wasn’t a hit with critics when it first came out – it got pretty low scores on Rotten Tomatoes. But honestly, over the years, it’s become a bit of a cult classic! I think a huge part of why it works is Kevin James. He’s just so good as Paul Blart – you can’t help but root for him. He’s a total underdog, and he manages to be both really funny and surprisingly heartfelt. What I love is that it’s slapstick comedy that’s genuinely funny for everyone, without being mean or gross, and then it throws in some surprisingly fun action scenes. It’s just simple, good fun!
The first Paul Blart: Mall Cop became a surprise hit, gaining a dedicated fanbase and earning $183 million in theaters, which led to a sequel a few years later. However, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 didn’t do as well, bringing in only $107 million and receiving very negative reviews – critics gave it a 6% rating, while audiences scored it at 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. While still a silly comedy, the sequel lacked the charm of the original, with weaker jokes, a predictable story, and a less appealing version of Blart. This poor performance seemed to end any plans for a third movie, although Kevin James mentioned in 2022 that he’d be interested in making Paul Blart 3 if given the chance.
What’s New on Peacock?
Peacock continues to expand its streaming library with new additions like the Paul Bart: Mall Cop movies. December started strong with popular titles including The Addams Family and the Rocky films, as well as 10 Cloverfield Lane, Cheaper by the Dozen, Gladiator, Miracle on 34th Street, and Pixels. Throughout the month, they’ve also added films such as The Croods: A New Age, Renfield, and The Fabelmans.
