Starfield PS5 Announcement Imminent as Bethesda Shows Big Changes Behind-the-Scenes

After much speculation, it appears Starfield will likely be released on PS5 in 2026. Recent reports indicate Bethesda held a preview event for content creators, discussing future expansions and enhancements for the game.

As many of you likely remember, this game was originally announced for PlayStation a long time ago. However, after Microsoft acquired the game’s publisher, the PlayStation version was unfortunately cancelled.

Rumors circulated that the Japanese company was interested in acquiring the game, and even considered a deal for temporary exclusive access. However, their competitor in Redmond quickly outbid them, effectively ending those plans.

Starfield didn’t quite meet player hopes, and with Xbox console sales struggling, the company is now bringing many of its exclusive games – like Halo and Gears of War – to the PlayStation 5.

And, has been speculated for a while now, it sounds like Starfield will be next.

There’s been a lot of talk that Bethesda is planning to release the game on a new platform at the same time as a significant update. They’ve reportedly been demonstrating this update privately this week.

There’s debate about how significant this update will be. Some are comparing it to the major turnaround seen with Cyberpunk 2077, while others are urging players not to get their hopes too high. However, it seems the game’s loading screens and overall structure are definitely going to be improved.

Since Bethesda is already giving glimpses of this content, we can likely expect an official announcement no later than January.

Xbox has announced a Developer Direct event for next year, so we expect to hear updates about Starfield then.
