Kyouran Makaism details base facilities

I’m so hyped for Kyouran Makaism! Nippon Ichi Software just dropped a bunch of details and screenshots, and it looks like the game has some really cool base-building features. We’ll be able to customize things with ‘Chara World’ and ‘Item World,’ plus there’s a ‘Breeder’ to help grow your team, a ‘Debate Assembly’ that sounds interesting, and even a ‘Cheat Shop’ for a little extra help. I can’t wait to see how these all work together!

Get the details below.

■ About

Kyouran Makaism is a fresh 3D action RPG created by a talented team, including director Shunsuke Minowa, character designer Takehito Harada, and composer Tenpei Sato.

This game lets players feel incredibly powerful as they defeat enemies using unique and spectacular abilities. It’s easy to pick up and play, but offers deep progression systems, like leveling characters to the maximum and then resetting them to become even stronger. Players can build characters with stats so high they’ll deal billions of points of damage!

—The protagonist N.A. and his employer, the fledgling overlord Tisiel.

■ The Overlord’s Castle

Your Overlord’s Castle is your main hub for getting ready for each battle. It includes places like Chara World, Item World, the Breeder, Debate Assembly, and the Cheat Shop. You’ll start with only a few of these available, but you can unlock more as you play.

As a fan, I’ve learned that everything you need to get ready for battle – like choosing your weapons and organizing your items – all happens back at Overlord’s Castle. It’s basically your base of operations for prepping for any fight!

You can build a truly powerful character by making the most of everything available in the Overlord’s Castle – improving your character, weapons, and armor along the way.

■ Chara World

You can help N.A. grow stronger by completing dungeon challenges inspired by the sugoroku game. Since N.A. can’t go into the Chara World himself, Tisiel and her familiars will explore the dungeons for him.

Okay, so in this game, when my favorite character, Tisiel, wants to move around the Chara World, she doesn’t just walk – she spins a slot machine! Whatever the slot machine lands on determines how many spaces she gets to advance. It’s a really fun way to add some randomness to the game!

What happens next depends on where you are, and your abilities can improve based on the events that unfold.

—N.A. can be strengthened with various power-ups such as increased HP, additional mana, and more.

—By utilizing Tisiel and her familiars’ special skills, you can strengthen N.A. more efficiently.

When you arrive on a battlefield, your familiars will automatically fight any enemy monsters there. You’ll encounter these battles frequently, so make sure your familiars are well-trained before heading out.

—During battle, Tisiel’s “Support Actions” can be used to heal or strengthen familiars.

You’ll get a special reward when you reach the very end of the Chara World!

■ Item World

This is where you can upgrade N.A.’s weapons and armor. You can improve an item’s power by completing challenges inside the item itself, increasing its level and overall performance.

As you defeat waves of enemies, you’ll level up your items and earn Item Points, which you can use to make them even stronger.

Don’t worry about losing battles in the Item World! You’ll still earn rewards for the fights you do have, so go ahead and give it a try.

Item Points let you focus on improving specific aspects of your items, like boosting their attack power or letting you add more Innocents. You can also use them to unlock new abilities.

Improve your tools and make them simpler to operate, while also giving you plenty of ways to personalize them to your needs.

Sometimes, you might find a hidden room where you can chat with the people you encounter inside the Item World.

—Events will occur in “mysterious small rooms.”

Innocents Management

Innocents management is also handled in the Item World.

Innocents are special characters you can add to your equipment to make them more powerful. They come in different types and strengths, and you can manage which Innocents are equipped through the ‘Innocents Management’ system.

Get a battlefield advantage by assigning as many Innocents as you can to your favorite or most-used gear.

Innocents come in two forms: “Subdued” and “Unsubdued.” If you encounter an “Unsubdued” Innocent, it can act as an enemy. Defeating it will actually make that Innocent stronger, so be sure to challenge them when you see them!

■ Breeder

As a trainer, one of the coolest things you can do is form a bond with captured monsters! Once you do, they become your “familiars” and fight with you in battles. If you capture a monster you don’t want, you can head to the Breeder and “extract” it for mana – it’s a great way to manage your team. And as you get further in the game, you’ll even unlock ways to make your familiars even stronger with things like “Magichange” and “Reincarnation”! It really lets you customize and power up your monster companions.

You can collect 16 different kinds of monsters, called familiars, and they each have their own look, powers, and abilities. Train your favorites to become powerful allies!

—During battle, familiars act according to strategy and provide support to N.A.

■ Debate Assembly

You can introduce and pass proposals by holding an assembly. To get your proposals approved, you’ll need to win a debate. It’s crucial to gather support from assembly members – even through offering incentives – before the vote to guarantee your plans succeed.

Try to get the group to agree to changes that will help you, like earning more experience points or carrying more items.

Okay, so in this game, if I need to get someone on my side, I’ve got a few options. I can try and bribe them, knock them out, or… well, let’s just say convince them with a little… force. It’s all about how I want to play, really.

In the game, the player character, N.A., can choose to start a new life as a reincarnated version of themselves during a Debate Assembly. This resets their level to 1, but allows them to keep some of their previous abilities. How much stronger they were before will determine if they receive extra points to further boost their starting stats.

By repeatedly reviving and improving N.A., starting with boosted stats, you can make him endlessly more powerful! This cycle of rebirth and growth allows for limitless strengthening of the main character.

■ Cheat Shop

So, in the Cheat Shop, I can really tweak the game to how I want to play. I can make enemies tougher or mess with how much stuff I get. If I’m trying to level up fast, I can set it so I earn way more EXP, even if it means getting less money and mana. It’s a cool way to customize the experience!

—You may even be able to change the enemy’s strength or weaken an overpowered N.A.?!

Kyouran Makaism is due out for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Switch on January 29, 2026 in Japan.
