A recent report indicates when we can expect Naughty Dog’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Naughty Dog is widely considered one of the top game developers, which presents both advantages and challenges. The studio enjoys significant creative freedom and resources to create large-scale, ambitious projects. However, this also comes with immense pressure to deliver a flawless game, which can be problematic. Naughty Dog has faced criticism in the past for relying on “crunch” – periods of intense overtime that often negatively impact the developers’ work-life balance.
Naughty Dog is known for creating incredibly high-quality games, but reports suggest this comes at a cost to its developers. A former employee shared that a colleague was hospitalized from overwork during the making of The Last of Us Part II, raising concerns about the team’s well-being. While Naughty Dog has tried to improve working conditions, particularly by offering work-from-home options after the pandemic, questions remain about whether these positive changes will last through the intense final stages of developing their new game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet‘s Release Window Will Repeat a Similar Strategy to Past Naughty Dog Games
According to a new Bloomberg report, developers at Naughty Dog are facing increased pressure as they get closer to finishing their upcoming game. Currently, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is expected to launch around mid-2027, potentially in late spring or summer – a similar timeframe to the releases of Uncharted 4 and the two Last of Us games, which both came out in May and June.
The game has faced several delays, and in October, employees were required to work at least 8 extra hours each week (up to a maximum of 60 hours total) to address the setbacks and complete a demo. While the studio’s schedule is now mostly back to normal, developers are worried about the intense work that may be required to finish the game.
The release date for Intergalactic is currently unknown. While an internal demo might be used to showcase gameplay to fans around late 2026, it’s more likely being used to update Sony executives on the game’s development. Public gameplay demos can often put a lot of pressure on developers, who may need to rush or refine unfinished parts of the game just for the presentation.
Will Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Be Delayed?

Another important point is that the release of Intergalactic might be pushed back. While a recent Bloomberg article doesn’t mention any delays, if employee concerns grow, Naughty Dog might decide it’s not worth forcing extra work to release the game in mid-2027. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could potentially be released in the fall instead, giving developers more time and possibly making it a launch title for the PS6. For now, this is all just speculation, as everything hinges on whether Naughty Dog can create a realistic development schedule.
