Love Island’s Amaya Espinal Speaks Out After Hospitalization

Love Island USA’s Amaya “Papaya” Espinal is working on her health.

The winner of season seven underwent emergency surgery over the weekend due to severe stomach pain, according to TopMob News. Reports indicate the 27-year-old remains hospitalized in Los Angeles.

Following the procedure, Amaya gave a glimpse at her recovery.

Oh my gosh, I was so worried when I saw her Instagram Story! She posted a pic from the hospital – it was heartbreaking! There was this sweet little note with the flowers, from everyone at ITV and the Beyond the Villa team, just wishing her a super speedy recovery. It was honestly so touching to see they were all thinking of her, and I’m just sending all my love and hoping she feels better soon! I screenshotted it immediately, of course!

Amaya, currently filming the Love Island spinoff, shared the post on Instagram Stories with just a string of heart emojis and a crying face.

But her recent health battle isn’t the only major change in her life as of late.

In July, Amaya revealed that she and Bryan Arenales had broken up shortly after winning the reality TV show and sharing the $100,000 prize money.

Amaya announced on Instagram on August 27th that she and Bryan, whom she met on the show, have broken up. She explained that after leaving the show, they realized they wanted different things and weren’t compatible as a couple, as a successful relationship requires both people to be on the same page.

She reassured everyone that there were no hard feelings, saying, “I have nothing but good wishes for him.”

As someone who’s always been open about the realities of life – and a pretty active one at that – I wanted to share something a bit unexpected. During a wrestling match in July 2025 against Piper Niven, I took a pretty hard elbow slam, and it actually caused one of my breast implants to shift. It’s definitely a reminder that even when you’re prepared, things can happen, and bodies are…well, they’re complex!

Oh my gosh, you guys, she told Bella Garcia this, and it’s EVERYTHING! She was like, ‘It’s okay, we’ll fix it eventually!’ And then she explained to the doctor – seriously, the doctor – that as soon as her divorce was final and she wasn’t performing anymore, she was coming right back to him to get everything… enhanced. She was SO confident, saying those girls needed to look amazing because they were going to be getting a lot of attention later, and they definitely couldn’t look the way they did then! I replay that quote in my head constantly, it’s just… perfection!

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her acting.

She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.

She explained that growing up, people are often told periods are painful and that pain is just something women have to deal with. This leaves many of us feeling like we’re facing a common struggle all by ourselves.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she had been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.

She messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “You haven’t tweeted in ages!” Then, jokingly, she added, “Have you ever thought that maybe I wore pants so tight six months ago that I got a hernia and I’ve been too afraid to mention it?”

As a health and wellness advocate, I’m sharing that a familiar face, one of the stars from Beverly Hills, 90210, recently went through a health scare. He let us know back in April of this year that he was recovering from surgery – it turns out his appendix almost burst! Thankfully, he’s on the mend, and it’s a good reminder for all of us to prioritize our health and listen to our bodies.

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

During a soccer game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle, a player from Racing Louisville collapsed after only a few minutes of play.

According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate supporting her, before suddenly collapsing. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.

After receiving immediate medical attention on the field, Savannah was taken to a nearby hospital for further tests. League officials reported she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck as a child continue to cause him problems even now.

Let me tell you, the last year has been incredibly tough. I was dealing with these awful spasms all over my body, and honestly, doctors were telling me things were very serious – they actually said I was facing a life-threatening situation. It was a really frightening time, and a complete nightmare to go through.

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite working as it should.

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital because of severe back pain. He said he was in so much pain he had to crawl on his hands and knees, and the pain got worse during a road trip with a friend.

He described a strange tingling sensation that still lingered in his knees and toes as of March 2025, sharing this on his Trading Secrets podcast. He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he’d been squatting around 295 pounds, but now he couldn’t even do a squat, or even stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from The Real Housewives of Orange County, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.

Okay, so there was a little scare yesterday, but I wanted to let everyone know I’m feeling much better! Turns out it wasn’t anything serious – just a pretty nasty case of food poisoning. Thankfully, I’m on the road to recovery now.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday outing with her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a trip to go clay pigeon shooting when the incident occurred.

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a gun unsafely. Brendan Rooney quickly helped her, evaluated her injuries, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within an inch of a direct hit.

The Kim Possible actress explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind her eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, but they will keep monitoring her vision, which is currently normal.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared her deep love for her daughters, husband, family, and friends, saying she realized how precious life is. ‘I saw everything in a split second,’ she explained, ‘so please, cherish your loved ones and hug them often, because things can change unexpectedly.’

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often negative side, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” she was surprised to see doctors commenting on interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome due to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted her to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections for past procedures like a breast reduction and C-section. Schumer explained that she wouldn’t have known about the condition without the online comments. She recently shared that she’s relieved to have a form of Cushing syndrome that will resolve on its own and that she is healthy, calling it the “greatest news imaginable.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began to have stroke-like symptoms, losing the ability to speak and experiencing drooping on the right side of her face. Though these symptoms eventually subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, known as a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to travel to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, and while the situation had been frightening, he was expected to make a full recovery. She expressed her gratitude that he was doing okay.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the serious health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he’d had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for extensive rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed deep gratitude for the prayers he received, saying he needed them all.

The reality TV star shared that she temporarily stopped breathing while running in the first challenge of the NBC competition show.

She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then experienced a bright light. This led her to realize she had died that day.

She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a severe headache during a workout, which quickly escalated. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak coherently.

Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. This surgery was unsuccessful, leading to a major bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

She said she’s feeling great and has been working to regain some motor skills, but is otherwise doing fine.

Shailene Woodley struggled with serious health issues throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she explained that she experienced hearing loss, extreme fatigue – unable to walk for more than five minutes without needing hours of rest – and constant stomach pain. She received multiple diagnoses from different doctors, leaving her confused.

Determined to find answers, Woodley, who has kept her specific condition private, combined traditional medical care with holistic and herbal remedies. This search for well-being lasted for ten years.

She explained that the physical discomfort led to deeper issues, including fear of food and struggles with body image, identity, and feeling comfortable in her own body.

Thankfully, after years of focusing on both her physical and mental health, Shailene is now doing much better. She shared that her health issues have resolved, and she is very happy and healthy.
