Naughty Dog, the game studio behind PlayStation hits like The Last of Us, is asking employees to work overtime, according to reports. This push is reportedly to help get their upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, on schedule.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the game has already missed multiple deadlines. With Sony planning to check on the game’s development soon, the team had to work extra hard to finish a demo, which they reportedly completed this week.
According to sources inside the company, developers should be returning to their regular work schedules after a period of overtime that began in late October and continued through the holidays.
This news will likely lead to questions about the development of Intergalactic. The game, a PlayStation 5 exclusive originally revealed at The Game Awards in 2024, is currently planned for release around mid-2027, but very little information has been shared since its announcement.
Some employees are worried that intense periods of overtime – often called ‘crunch’ – might happen again as the game gets closer to release. Naughty Dog has faced criticism for this before, particularly during the making of The Last of Us Part 2, where employees were expected to work very long hours.
So, what do you guys think about Intergalactic? I’m really hyped for it, but I’m starting to wonder if they’ll actually hit that mid-2027 release date. What are your predictions? Let’s chat in the comments – feel free to bring your best laser sword impressions!
