Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy launches Alpha Test — Owlcat Games celebrates by releasing a new gameplay trailer to give players a sneak preview of it

Throughout December, Owlcat Games has been sharing previews of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, including detailed looks at its Investigation System and several gameplay screenshots.

Owlcat Games just released a new gameplay trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, giving players a look at how the game works. This comes with the launch of the Alpha Test, which was slightly delayed from December 16th to December 18th, 2025, to allow for some final improvements.

The game footage showcases the dangerous missions players will experience, with narration by Anton Zerbe, who voices the Inquisitor Lord you’ll be working for as a new member of the Inquisition.

I got a peek at some gameplay, and it looks like you start as an Acolyte and meet a ton of cool characters you can add to your team – like Laarthyr Cairnareth, this awesome Aeldari Corsair. They also showed off how the investigation system works, which is really neat. You have to gather clues and put everything together to solve mysteries and then decide what to do with the people involved – basically, play detective and deliver justice!

The game also features short clips of its combat, which builds upon the system in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. Now, players can target specific enemy body parts to inflict greater damage or apply negative effects.

I got a real look at some of the enemies during those battles – things like broken-down members of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the really wild Kroot, and even mutated Daemons devoted to the Chaos Gods. It’s a pretty diverse and scary bunch, honestly!

The Alpha Test for the Steam version of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is now available to players who pre-ordered either the Digital Founder’s Pack or the Collector’s Edition, letting them be among the first to play and experience the game’s intense content.

If you didn’t pre-order but still want to participate in the Alpha Test for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, visit the game’s Steam Page for instructions.

If you haven’t signed up yet, you’ll need to wait until the game is released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will be available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store when it launches.
