Naughty Dog, the studio behind games like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Last of Us Part 2, has a history of demanding long work hours from its employees. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, staff working on the new game, Intergalactic, have been required to work an extra eight hours per week since late October.
The delays seem to stem from missed deadlines and a push to get production moving again. This isn’t new for Intergalactic; last year, some teams worked extended hours to finish the trailer.
Recently, the studio has been requiring everyone to work long hours – five days a week with a limit of 60 hours total. It’s also concerning that many members of the team specifically created to manage these intense periods of work have reportedly quit.
The recent period of required overtime has ended for most employees, and we’re now returning to working in the office three days a week for the rest of January. A more specific schedule for next year is being developed, so these plans are subject to change.
The game Intergalactic is currently being made for the PlayStation 5. While details have been shared, a release date hasn’t been announced. However, journalist Jason Schreier has reported it’s unlikely to be released next year.
