5 Awesome DC Comics Crossovers That Weren’t With Marvel

I’m excited to see DC and Marvel team up again as a comic book fan! I really enjoyed the previous Deadpool and Batman crossover, especially the one written by Grant Morrison, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming Superman and Spider-Man team-up in 2026. However, DC hasn’t just been crossing over with Marvel. Over the past 20 years, since the last big DC/Marvel event, they’ve created some fantastic crossover stories with characters you wouldn’t expect.

As a big fan of DC Comics, I always get thrilled when they team up with other universes. I was especially excited about their crossovers with Jeff Lemire’s Black Hammer and even the Looney Tunes! DC has done a lot of fun and unexpected crossovers lately, so here are 5 of them, showcasing which heroes and villains met along the way.

5. Multiversus: Collision Detected

Remember the Multiversus fighting game? It didn’t quite live up to expectations for some, but at least it inspired a really enjoyable comic book! Multiversus: Collision Detected brought together heroes from the Justice League with popular characters from the game, like Steven Universe, Bugs Bunny, Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, and even Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty. The comic is lighthearted and doesn’t take itself too seriously – perfect for this kind of crossover – and it was just really heartwarming to see characters like Steven Universe and Superman team up.

4. Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice!

This comic was a surprisingly great read! Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice throws the characters from Jeff Lemire’s dark take on superheroes into the world of the Justice League. While the Justice League investigates the strange happenings in the town of Rockwood, the Black Hammer heroes try to adjust to the typically more optimistic DC Universe. It’s a crossover that works best if you already know the Black Hammer series, but it’s consistently fun and engaging throughout.

3. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong

Okay, seriously, this crossover is amazing! I was so excited when I heard they were bringing the DC heroes together with Godzilla and Kong. “Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong” is just a non-stop thrill ride – the Toyman throws those giant monsters into the League’s world to take out our heroes, and the battles are incredible. Honestly, it’s everything you could want! And the best part? Kong actually uses a Green Lantern power ring, and it’s as unbelievably cool as you’re imagining.

2. DC x Sonic the Hedgehog

The DC x Sonic the Hedgehog comic is a recent and highly enjoyable team-up. The story is simple: Darkseid wants the Chaos Emeralds to dominate all realities, forcing the Justice League to team up with Sonic and his friends. There’s even a fun twist where Sonic, Knuckles, Amy, and others temporarily become members of the Justice League while visiting the DC Universe. It’s a self-aware and genuinely entertaining crossover that fans of both DC and Sonic will likely love.

1. DC Meets Looney Tunes

I can’t imagine a more fun and unexpected pairing than these comics! This series features one-shot stories where DC superheroes team up with classic Looney Tunes characters – think Catwoman with Tweety and Sylvester, or Lex Luthor with Porky Pig. Each book presents two stories: one drawn like a typical superhero comic, and another with a classic cartoon style. While the Batman/Elmer Fudd book is a standout (and deservedly so!), every story in this collection is fantastic. If you’re a fan of both superheroes and cartoons, you really need to check these out.
