Stalker 2 has already received numerous major updates since releasing in November last year. Up to this point, though, most of those code transfusions have focussed on fixing the sequel’s many bugs or elaborating upon its mechanics, such as improving its A-life system or adding dynamic faction wars. But its latest update—Stories Untold—expands the Zone itself, adding new areas and new quests to give veteran Stalkers something extra to do over the holiday season.
This update introduces a new mystery centered around a strange signal in the Zone. This signal is causing stalkers to experience symptoms like headaches, nosebleeds, and hallucinations. The questline begins after players leave the Zalissya area early in the game, triggered by a PDA message that can appear anywhere on the map, but is most commonly found near the Burnt Forest.
The new story content for the game adds more than five hours of gameplay, including eight new missions and seven new locations to discover. While the developers haven’t revealed the specific locations, they’ll be open for all players to explore, filled with the unpredictable events the Stalker series is famous for. Depending on your choices and how you play, the story might even allow you to establish a new base in the Burnt Forest.
This update includes new missions and locations, as well as a new weapon called the GP37V2. It’s an improved version of the GP37, coming with a built-in silencer and scope. We’ve also added a simpler saving feature for Master Difficulty and Expedition modes. You can choose to manually save at any time, but this is a one-time decision that can’t be undone.
This update resolves several remaining bugs in Stalker 2. It prevents items from appearing in the same spot, improves the performance of enemy models, and fixes a problem that caused extremely large groups of enemies to spawn in the Garbage region’s Plant area.
Stalker 2 has improved significantly since it was first shown last year. PC Gamer’s Joshua Wolens was impressed, noting its unique blend of classic game design and modern visuals. He called it a welcome return for one of PC gaming’s best and most unusual series.
