Prime Video has had a strong year, and the second season of Fallout is the latest hit. They have even more exciting releases planned for 2026. But you don’t have to wait that long for great content – a fantastic and often overlooked sci-fi film from the last five years is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
Released in 2023, The Creator is a film directed by Gareth Edwards that initially generated a lot of excitement. While critics offered mixed reviews (it currently has a 67% score on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences generally enjoyed it more, giving it a 75% audience score. Over time, the film has gained even more appreciation, and is now available to stream on Prime Video. Many consider it to be underrated.
How Gareth Edwards Crafted Such A Stunning and Unpredictable Universe in The Creator

The Creator explores interesting ideas about technology, war, and artificial intelligence, and it looks absolutely beautiful. It’s so visually impressive that you might assume it cost a fortune to make, but surprisingly, the budget was only $80 million. Director Gareth Edwards and the team at ILM achieved this by focusing on practical effects whenever possible.
During a conversation with Lucasfilm, Edwards discussed how the visual effects were made and the general plan for the project. He explained that ILM took a big risk by agreeing to his unusual approach. Instead of starting with concept art or green screen filming, Edwards wanted to shoot on location, capturing beautiful footage and strong performances first. He then planned to design the world and determine which characters were robots during the editing process – essentially building the effects after filming, which he admitted was a challenging request.
We quickly reached a general understanding about the number of shots and the overall scope of the project. I actually anticipated that Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) might politely decline, suggesting we take the project elsewhere. I was bracing for them to call and explain that the plan wasn’t financially viable. But luckily, Jay was incredibly enthusiastic and willing to make it work, as he always is, according to Edwards.
A crucial part of the production involved keeping the identities of the ‘simulants’ secret from the cast and crew. Director Edwards personally selected which extras would play these roles while reviewing footage, and deliberately didn’t reveal their identities on set.
Edwards explained he wanted the actors’ reactions to feel genuinely natural. To achieve this, the cast and crew weren’t told who was playing a robot or an AI character – they were simply told it was a science fiction movie where anyone could secretly be a robot, but still experience things as a human. He asked everyone to approach the project as if it were a realistic, modern war film, suspending their disbelief about the science fiction elements, and just act accordingly.
You can now stream The Creator on Prime Video.
