As a long-time comic book fan and collector, I’m absolutely thrilled about McFarlane Toys‘ latest collaboration with Marvel! Back in the day, I spent countless hours poring over those iconic covers by Jim Lee, Steve Ditko, John Romita Jr., Rob Liefeld, and Todd McFarlane himself. These artists shaped my love for comic books and brought the characters to life in ways that continue to inspire me today.

In May, Todd McFarlane unveiled McFarland Toys’ initial collaboration with Marvel to ComicBook, and it’s now ready for pre-orders. This collection consists of posed figures in both 1:10 and 1:6 scales, featuring designs inspired by renowned Marvel comic covers from artists such as Jim Lee, Steve Ditko, John Romita Jr., Rob Liefeld, and Todd McFarlane himself.

The initial release of 1:6 scale figurines draws inspiration from Todd McFarlane’s legendary artwork gracing the covers of Amazing Spider-Man #301 and The Amazing Spider-Man #323, representing Spider-Man and Captain America respectively. Each figurine comes with an environmental base, a diorama backdrop, a comic book reprint, and an art card. At present, the cost of these figurines/statues remains undisclosed. However, more information will be unveiled during their debut on July 18th at 9am PT / 12pm ET, available for purchase on Entertainment Earth and Amazon (UPDATE: Now live!). Additionally, you can find other 1:10 scale figures within those links.

  • Spider-Man 1:10th scale posed figure with scene inspired by the Spider-Man #6 cover by Todd McFarlane
  • Deadpool 1:10th scale posed figure with scene inspired by The New Mutants #98 cover by Rob Liefeld
  • Iron Man 1:10th scale posed figure with scene inspired by The Invincible Iron Man #126 cover by John Romita Jr.
  • Wolverine 1:10th scale posed figure with scene inspired by the X-Men #1 cover by Jim Lee

McFarlane had the following to say to ComicBook about the future of the lineup:

McFarlane expressed fondness for some friends he grew up with, sharing, “I’ll pay tribute to Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld in the first series. During our era of entering comic books, we each left unique marks.”

In due time, I’ll pay homage to the individuals who significantly influenced my artistic journey, George Perez and John Byrne. However, I acknowledge that there is a new generation of fans whose heroes are not these gentlemen. So, as a fan myself, I will focus on the artists who currently inspire them, be it interior or cover artists. I’ll keep an open mind and provide them with the recognition they deserve.
