As a seasoned Pokemon Go player with countless hours under my belt and countless Pokeballs thrown, the excitement for the 2024 World Championships is palpable! The snorkeling Pikachu alone has me hooked, line, and sinker – pun intended! The thought of encountering this aquatic-themed mascot in-game is simply electrifying. And let’s not forget the new avatar items that match the World Championships theme. I mean, who wouldn’t want to strut their stuff in a Bucket Hat or strike a Ukulele Pose?
2024’s Pokemon World Championships kick off towards the end of this month, and an exciting tie-in event for Pokemon Go has been planned to coincide with it. This year’s World Championships are taking place in Honolulu, Hawaii, where a swimsuit-clad Pikachu serves as the official mascot. In Pokemon Go, this special Pikachu will debut as a fresh costume variant. During the event, you can find the 2024 World Championships Pikachu through Field Research tasks and one-star Raids. The event commences at 10 a.m. on August 16th (Friday) and concludes on August 20th (Tuesday) at 8 p.m.
Alongside the unique snorkeling Pikachu character, gamers can anticipate some fresh avatar goods aligned with the World Championship’s theme. In our game store, you’ll find a Bucket Hat and Aloha Shirt available for purchase. Additionally, there’s a Ukulele Pose up for grabs, as it ties in nicely with the real ukulele being sold at this year’s World Championships. Event attendees will receive an exclusive blue avatar shirt adorned with snorkeling Pikachu, while those not attending can secure a white version of the shirt through a distribution code that will be shared during the first day’s stream of the World Championships.
Most players can acquire the avatar items, but there are certain exclusives as well. The winner of the 2024 Pokemon Go World Championship will be rewarded with an exclusive outfit that includes a snorkel mask, Championship belt, and additional features. Moreover, they’ll get an exclusive pose for their avatar, showcasing them holding a trophy aloft!
Event Bonuses
Because the World Championships focus on combat, the remaining parts of this in-game event will follow a Go Battle League motif. Various Pokémon encountered throughout the event will boast unique Featured Attacks, such as Lickitung’s Body Slam and Mienfoo’s High Jump Kick (charged attacks). Additionally, certain Pokémon that evolve during the event will be equipped with a Featured Attack. These include:
- Altaria- Charged Attack Moon Blast
- Charjabug- Charged Attack Volt Switch
- Quagsire- Charged Attack Aqua Tail
- Talonflame- Fast Attack Incinerate
1) In addition, players can anticipate themed PokeStop Showcases and enhanced Special Trades that permit trading up to five times a day. Moreover, you’ll find a Timed Research option in the store priced at $5.00.
