WWE's Roman Reigns Returns to Help Cody Rhodes Retain Undisputed Title at SummerSlam

As a seasoned wrestling enthusiast who’s seen more than a few matches under the bright arena lights, I must say that this year’s SummerSlam was nothing short of spectacular! The adrenaline-fueled bouts kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

At WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes overcame Roman Reigns and The Bloodline to claim the Undisputed WWE Championship. Now, he’s dealing with a new faction known as the Bloodline, led by Solo Sikoa. This new group is more uncontrolled than Roman’s original one, but it hasn’t stopped Rhodes. Despite facing Sikoa in a Bloodline Rules match at SummerSlam, Rhodes initially fought him one-on-one, but The Bloodline eventually tipped the scales in their favor and attempted to overpower the Champion. However, Rhodes received backup from Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. Yet, Jacob Fatu manipulated the situation again. That’s when Roman Reigns made his unexpected return, and he ended up aiding Rhodes and defeating Sikoa, ensuring that Rhodes remains your Undisputed WWE Champion.

Rhodes vs Sikoa

In their initial encounter, Sikoa and Rhodes clashed without either of them falling, but in the second instance, Sikoa managed to knock down the Champion. However, the Champion quickly got back on his feet. During this exchange, Sikoa demonstrated his knowledge of Rhodes’ moves by intercepting a drop-down punch. Later, Sikoa struck Rhodes with a powerful back elbow and rushed towards him, but Rhodes evaded and exited the ring to gather himself.

In the intense battle, Sikoa retaliated with a powerful kick and a strike, prompting Rhodes to respond with kicks of equal force, eventually getting tossed out of the ring. However, Rhodes managed to hang on and quickly re-entered the fray, executing an impressive Disaster Kick that sent Sikoa sprawling. He then took a daring leap over the ropes. Rhodes attempted another dive, but Sikoa countered with a punch to the face and subsequently hurled the Champ into the steel steps.

In the match, Sikoa delivered a massive kick that sent the Champion sprawling onto the mat, followed by an attempt at a pin; however, Rhodes managed to keep himself in the fight by kicking out. Rhodes was hoisted and hurled back to the mat by his opponent, struggling to regain his breath within the ring. Sikoa then executed another Samoan Drop, launching Rhodes high, but again, Rhodes escaped a swift pin attempt. Sikoa went for a Samoan Spike next, but Rhodes countered by striking Sikoa’s hand and retaliating with a Cody Cutter. The force of the maneuver sent Sikoa tumbling to the floor, followed by Rhodes slamming him into the steel steps before ramming his head against the Prime hydration station.

In this wrestling bout, Rhodes gulped down Prime, then splashed it onto Sikoa’s face, followed by a swift right hook. More punches landed, and the Bionic Elbow connected too. However, Sikoa managed to lift Rhodes off his feet and executed a Powerbomb on Rhodes, pinning him down, but Rhodes somehow managed to kick out. Back in the ring, Rhodes came close to rolling up Sikoa, but Sikoa responded with a powerslam and another pin attempt. Once again, Rhodes miraculously kicked out.

For a brief moment, Sikoa seized command, yet Rhodes managed to ride out the tempest and dodge a third high-flying headbutt. Rhodes ascended to the top rope and executed an impressive double moonsault crossbody, leaving both competitors sprawled on the mat. Sikoa attempted to follow suit, but was intercepted by Rhodes; Rhodes then delivered a superplex, although he failed to pin his opponent. Momentum started to shift in Rhodes’ favor as he rained down strikes, but Sikoa retaliated and aimed for a Cross Rhodes. However, Cody thwarted the move and retaliated with a Cross Rhodes of his own.

In this scenario, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa entered and assaulted Rhodes, delivering a combo move to the Champ which almost resulted in a pin by Sikoa, but Rhodes managed to get his shoulder up. Following this, Kevin Owens made an appearance and rushed down to aid Rhodes. Owens engaged in combat with the group, although their superior numbers eventually took control. Subsequently, Randy Orton emerged and descended into the ring. Orton executed RKOs and Stunners, power slammed Sikoa, and Owens performed a senton on Sikoa. Rhodes then administered the Cross Rhodes and attempted to pin Sikoa, but Sikoa miraculously survived.

In their pursuit, Orton and Owens forced Tonga and Loa away, allowing Rhodes to remain with Sikoa. In the ensuing altercation, Rhodes struck Sikoa repeatedly with a set of steel steps. However, Sikoa retaliated by spearing Rhodes and employing the steps to his advantage. As Sikoa charged towards Rhodes, Rhodes skillfully dodged, causing Sikoa to collide with the steps instead. Cross Rhodes then entered the fray, followed promptly by a second participant. Out of nowhere, Jacob Fatu executed a moonsault on Rhodes and quickly followed it up with another. Seizing Sikoa, Fatu positioned him atop Rhodes for a pin attempt, but Rhodes managed to kick out before the three count.

Fast quickly kicked Cody in the face and afterwards moved a commentator’s table out of the way. Fatu shoved Rhodes onto the table, jumped from high up, and crashed through the table with Rhodes underneath. Fatu was limping and couldn’t stand properly, while Rhodes lay motionless. Sikoa then dragged Rhodes into the ring and pinned him, but Rhodes miraculously managed to avoid defeat. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Rhodes executed a Cody Cutter on Sikoa, leaving both men unconscious. This was when Roman Reigns’ theme song started playing, causing an uproar in the crowd, signifying that the Head of the Tribe had returned.

Outside emerged Reigns, leaving both Sikoa and Rhodes taken aback. As he drew nearer to the ring, Reigns picked up speed, and upon entering the ring, he aimed not at Cody but at Sikoa with a Superman Punch. Subsequently, he positioned himself in a corner and unleashed a spear towards the potential Tribal Chief. After this, Reigns exited the ring, leaving Sikoa for Rhodes to handle. Rhodes then executed another Cross Rhodes, securing the pin and victory, thus retaining the Undisputed WWE Championship.
