Spider-Man: Marvel Previews Bloody New Black Suit Series

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with over two decades under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia as I witness Marvel Comics revisiting one of my all-time favorite storylines – the black suit era of Spider-Man. Having grown up reading J.M. DeMatteis and J. Michael Straczynski’s masterpieces, it’s an absolute delight to see them return to weave their magic once more.

In celebration of 40 years since the introduction of Spider-Man’s black suit, Marvel Comics is revisiting this era with a new comic series titled “Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood“. This four-issue comic, part of the “Black, White & Red” series, presents previously untold stories about a darker Spider-Man. It delves into the history and influence of the black suit on Peter Parker, who is also adopting black for Marvel’s symbiote-focused event “Venom War“.

On August 7th, the debut issue of “Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood” – a 36-page comic – is set to be released. This issue offers fresh tales from past writers of “Amazing Spider-Man”, including J.M. DeMatteis, who pitted black-suit Spider-Man against Kraven the Hunter in the classic “Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline (1987), and J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote the 2007 “Back in Black” storyline. The artwork is handled by Elena Casagrande, Sumit Kumar, and Dustin Nguyen, known for their work on “Blade”, “Spider-Man: India”, and “Alien: Black, White & Blood”, respectively.

In a new take on the classic story “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” writer J.M. DeMatteis teams up with artist Elena Casagrande, revealing fresh insights into a legendary scene. Meanwhile, J. Michael Straczynski and debut artist Sumit Kumar delve deep into the emotional turmoil of Peter Parker (and his symbiote) in an agonizing tale that will leave both characters broken. Over the years, a fragment of the symbiote has remained with Peter, biding its time to strike when he’s most vulnerable, tearing Spider-Man apart from within, as Dustin Nguyen crafts a terrifying narrative where Spidey must evade an unrelenting hunter – but the danger lurks within himself.

In the near future, you can expect fresh stories from well-known Spidey writers such as Greg Weisman (“Spectacular Spider-Men”), Dan Jurgens (“The Sensational Spider-Man”), Al Ewing (“Venom”), among others, in a striking red and black-and-white format. “Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood” is the newest addition to the Black, White & Red series, which has given rise to grittier and more action-packed comic book narratives involving characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, Elektra, Moon Knight, Marvel Zombies, the Alien from the 20th Century, and Sith Lords Darth Vader and Darth Maul from Star Wars.
