The Last of Us Season 2 Reveals First Look at Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby

The Last of Us Season 2 Reveals First Look at Kaitlyn Dever's Abby

As a die-hard fan with a decade-long love affair with The Last of Us franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming season 2! With Kaitlyn Dever stepping into the boots of Abby Anderson, the anticipation is at an all-time high.

Fans of “The Last of Us” can anticipate exciting new content in 2025, as HBO and MAX unveiled a fresh sizzle reel tonight, showcasing clips from upcoming series to be released in the coming year or so. Among these is the continuation of “The Last of Us,” with some footage from season 2 being revealed. In this sneak peek, we get our first glimpse of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby Anderson, a new cast member joining the show. Although several images and videos showing characters from “The Last of Us” season 2 have surfaced online, this is the first time fans will see Abby Anderson in live-action.

Though only one screen for a split-second, the first footage of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby in The Last of Us season 2 is something fans of The Last of Us Part II video game will immediately recognize. Dever’s version of the character can be seen being pursued by infected, a horde of them pushing onto a fence and toppling it on top of her as she scrambles through the snow. This leads to a major moment in the video game itself which we won’t reveal, but it shows how much of the 2020 video game will make it onto the screen in the second season of HBO’s hit series.

The Last of Us Season 2 Reveals First Look at Kaitlyn Dever's Abby

When word broke about Kaitlyn Dever being chosen as Abby in season 2 of “The Last of Us,” it caught many off guard due to the notable disparity between Abby’s and Ellie’s appearances in “The Last of Us Part II” video game. Interestingly, Dever was a top choice among fans for the role of Ellie when there were initial whispers about adapting “The Last of Us” by Hollywood. Notably, voice actor and performer Laura Bailey, who voiced and motion-captured Abby in “The Last of Us Part II,” expressed her enthusiasm over Dever’s casting.

In a post on X in January, Bailey wrote, “Massive kudos, Kaitlyn! I can’t wait to witness Abby’s progress in your performances. Would you like a fitness partner? Just let me know!”

Judging from discussions by The Last of Us creators about the TV series, it appears highly probable that Kaitlyn Dever will portray Abby not just in The Last of Us season 2 but potentially in subsequent seasons as well. Given that the second game is anticipated to be turned into multiple seasons, this could very well be the case.

In my gaming world, I’ve been deeply engrossed in crafting two exceptional games. As Craig, one of our team members, mentioned, we’re meticulously working through a substantial amount of content to ensure each piece stands alone with its unique character arcs and journeys. Yet, it’s all part of a larger, interconnected storyline that binds the seasons together in an intricate tapestry.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t contain my excitement as HBO officially confirmed that Season 2 of “The Last of Us” is coming our way, but with a twist! Unlike the first season’s nine episodes, this one will only span seven. However, this compressed narrative seems to be setting the stage for potential seasons 3 and 4, leaving us with plenty more post-apocalyptic adventures to look forward to.
