World Trigger Teases New Anime Reboot With Slick Trailer

Created by Daisuke Ashihara, World Trigger is a highly-regarded manga from Shonen Jump, praised for its detailed world and engaging story. Despite having all the qualities fans enjoy in a Shonen series, it hasn’t become a major mainstream hit, largely due to a disappointing anime adaptation and several breaks in the manga’s release schedule caused by the author’s health. The manga began in Weekly Shonen Jump but moved to a monthly schedule in Jump SQ in 2018 after a two-year hiatus. The anime finished its third season in January 2022, and instead of a fourth season announcement after a four-year wait, fans were surprised with a reboot.

The news came out earlier this month, just before a short preview was shown at Jump Festa 2026. It had already been announced that World Trigger would be featured at this year’s Jump Festa, which is a huge anime and manga convention, and fans were especially excited. However, the preview wasn’t a new animation; it used panels from the manga with voiceovers to give fans an idea of what will be covered in the upcoming reboot.

Why Is World Trigger Getting an Anime Reboot?

The anime’s official social media account announced that the upcoming reboot will completely remake the first season, covering the story up to the beginning of the B-Rank Wars Arc. Fans can expect improvements to the original season’s pacing and animation, as the initial production had some significant issues.

The account clarified that production for future seasons will continue with Toei Animation, similar to seasons two and three, and will build upon the original first season of World Trigger. This reboot is specifically focused on the first season only; the rest of the anime series will not be remade.

Fans were initially disappointed with how the first season of the anime was adapted, which ran for 73 episodes between 2014 and 2016. The studio has stated they will improve the quality of only that first season, and subsequent seasons will remain unchanged. Currently in its third season, the anime has almost finished adapting the exciting B-Rank Wars Arc and will next move on to the Away Mission Test Arc. This arc, highly regarded by manga readers and divided into two parts, is considered a highlight of the series.

With enough manga chapters now available, a new season is possible, but the upcoming reboot will probably delay its production. In other news, Toei Animation has announced a World Trigger Festival planned for April 26th, 2026, at the newly renamed Kanadevia Hall (formerly Tokyo Dome City Hall). While more details are coming soon, fans hope to see a full trailer and even a release date for the anime reboot during the festival.
