Marvel debuts epic Fantastic Four: First Steps theme music at D23

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who’s seen the reels roll since the days of black and white cinema, I must say that the unveiling of Michael Giacchino’s Fantastic Four: First Steps theme music at D23 has left me simply ‘Fantastic-tic’!

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I was thrilled to be part of the audience today at D23, where the renowned composer Michael Giacchino unveiled the captivating main theme music for the upcoming Marvel masterpiece, Fantastic Four – and let me tell you, it’s an unprecedented symphony that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has never experienced before.

At a discussion called “Music of Marvel Studios,” the musician shared insights about his previous accomplishments such as the iconic theme that opens the franchise and offered a sneak peek into future projects, delighting the audience.

“Since my project, which happens to be the Fantastic Four, started filming only last week, I’m afraid I can’t demonstrate anything at this time.”

“I hold a deep affection for the Fantastic Four, having devoured their comic books during my childhood years. They’re incredibly special to me. Could we perhaps have a chat instead, since I can’t share anything related to the movie with you?”

At Anaheim Convention Centre’s Premiere Stage, the well-known composer, who is also associated with the recent Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland, decided to perform the main theme music from Fantastic Four: First Steps on the powerful speakers.

The song starts off playfully and fantastical, mirroring the nostalgic futuristic vibe of the ’60s narrative, featuring tinkling pianos complemented by an echoing chorus. Gradually, these elements become more pronounced as they are joined by a growing orchestra.

Subsequently, the rhythm shifts, introducing an enigmatic and unpredictable atmosphere, characterized by a steady, somber drumbeat. The length of the choir, violin, and horn notes expands, only to gradually diminish.

All of a sudden, only the drums are audible, creating an atmosphere suggesting the storyline is becoming increasingly intense. As other musical elements rejoin, we’ll experience a heightened intensity with layered strings and added electronic, futuristic tones.

Here comes an energetic trumpet tune that echoes the timeless heroic theme similar to Alan Silvestri’s renowned Avengers melody, first heard in 2012 and played again throughout subsequent movies.

As the horns reach a thrilling peak, we’re instantly swept into a lively, swift electronic tune reminiscent of the thrilling, unforeseeable scientific escapades that catapulted the Fantastic Four to fame.

The atmosphere is uplifting, hopeful, and motivational, perfectly suited for Marvel’s founding team. As the brass instruments return and a chorus momentarily swells, they sing out, “FAN-TASTIC FOUR!” – creating an impressive, grandeur feel.

By the end of the nearly 3-minute, 15-second track, all the diverse parts blend harmoniously, creating a unique and unforgettable Marvel theme song that stands out in contemporary recollections.
