For about a month now, Mario Kart World has been available on the Nintendo Switch 2. After waiting 11 years for this release, expectations were high. However, while it has lived up to some aspects of the hype, there are many areas where it falls short. In making changes to the traditional and beloved formula, Nintendo stirred up a lot of debate among Mario Kart fans. On the other hand, some features from previous versions like Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe appear to be missing in Mario Kart World. This omission is becoming increasingly noticeable to devoted players.
In Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, your character typically says something like “bye bye” or “so long” when overtaking an opponent. However, in Mario Kart World, these quips are no longer present, leaving some fans feeling that the game lacks a bit of its original charm, personality, and immersion.
In both Mario Kart 8 for Wii and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, your character would say phrases like ‘bye bye’ or ‘so long’ when passing another racer as a playful taunt. It’s surprising and a bit disappointing that these voice lines are missing in Mario Kart World, since they gave the races an extra touch of charm and made the characters seem more lively.
It’s been noted by some Mario Kart enthusiasts that Nintendo might have eliminated this particular aspect because having 24 racers could lead to an overwhelming amount of quips if not made more random. Alternatively, it’s suggested that they could have made room for the new greeting animations. Regardless of the reason, it seems many Mario Kart fans are expressing their disappointment over the loss of this small, yet engaging feature in Mario Kart World.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice that the absence of the classic item-stealing feature in Mario Kart might be more of a creative choice than an oversight during development. After all, Nintendo doesn’t typically backtrack on creative decisions, even when there’s a significant demand for it. Now, while some fans are disappointed about this change, it’s not the only issue that the community is voicing concerns about in relation to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game.
