Selena Gomez and David Henrie Reunite in First Look at Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

As a child of the late 90s/early 2000s, I can vividly remember the days when Disney Channel ruled our lives with their magical shows. From Miley Stewart to Raven Baxter, those were the golden years of television for me. And now, it feels like Christmas has come early as we’re getting a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel!

A glimpse of the upcoming sequel to the popular show “Wizards of Waverly Place” was shown during the airing of “Descendants: The Rise of Red”. Originally played by Selena Gomez and David Henrie as siblings Alex and Justin Russo, the show is now in production. Since its debut on Disney Channel with Selena Gomez leading the cast, the series quickly gained popularity among young viewers. At the same time, “Hannah Montana” was also premiered, following the trend set by shows like “That’s So Raven”, which paved the way for female-led comedy series on Disney.

For four seasons, magical practitioners (or simply wizards) produced a total of 106 episodes and garnered numerous accolades, including a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program in 2012. This series played a pivotal role in launching Selena Gomez’s career both musically and as an actress; she is currently featured in “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu. In 2009, Disney Channel introduced a film adaptation of the wizards series that drew over 11 million viewers on its premiere night.

According to the summary, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place revolves around Justin Russo, now an adult who prefers a normal, human life with his family – Giada, Roman, and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his house in need of help, Justin discovers he needs to brush up on his magical abilities in order to guide her as she learns the craft. Meanwhile, Justin must balance his everyday tasks while ensuring the protection of Wizard World’s future.

In the freshly released clips, Billie (played by Anice LeAnn Brown), who is rebellious and has a knack for magic, visits Justin following an event at WizTech. This newcomer, much to Justin’s dismay, bears a striking resemblance to his sister. Gomez skillfully returns as Alex, a character adored by viewers for her stylish demeanor and quick wit. For devotees of the original series, there are subtle references to the famous Russo residence, which gained significance throughout the show’s four-season span.

They too return to the Russo hideout, triggering a wave of nostalgia since everything seems untouched from when the three siblings were in training. In a flash, David DeLuise is seen behind the camera chuckling with the team, and it’s been verified that he will reappear in his role as Jerry Russo, the Russo family patriarch.

Keep an eye on ComicBook for the latest news and developments about “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place”. In the meantime, you can watch the original series on Disney+’s streaming platform.
