As a die-hard Marvel fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! The legendary heroes of the multiverse are gathering at none other than the Disneyland Resort. During this year’s D23 convention in Anaheim, the company dropped an epic announcement: Avengers Campus, the six-acre Marvel-themed land nestled within Disney California Adventure Park, is expanding!
At the D23 Expo in 2022, I learned about the exciting rebrand of what was previously known as Avengers: Infinity War – now called Avengers: Infinity Defense. This thrilling ride is rooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s characters and settings, featuring an entirely new storyline. Here’s the scoop: A cutting-edge technology that enables the Avengers to traverse dimensions has mysteriously vanished, and the notorious King Thanos is exploiting it to create chaos across multiple realms. With a sense of urgency, we’ll rally the mighty Avengers team to confront Thanos’ formidable army. Can’t wait for the adventure ahead!
Visitors to the Avengers Campus will journey to famous spots such as Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City, where they’ll encounter a variety of heroes, both well-known like Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, and the Dora Milaje, and lesser-known ones. These heroes, including the colossal Ant-Man, will be seen in combat against Thanos’ forces, specifically his Outriders from the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, Avengers: Endgame.
The construction for the Avengers Campus expansion will kick off in 2025. Recently unveiled sketches reveal that this expanded area will be situated behind Avengers Headquarters, a spot already bustling with an exciting rooftop spectacle and encounters where visitors can interact with various heroes. Some of these characters include Captain America (Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson), Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Ant-Man and the Wasp, as well as newcomers Deadpool and Wolverine.
In 2021, the exhilarating experiences Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, along with Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, have been the main attractions in Disney California Adventure. Additionally, two new attractions are set to debut at this park – an innovative ride based on the 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water and the first-ever Disney Parks ride inspired by Pixar’s 2017 movie Coco.
Disney’s Experiences division is speeding up towards a journey filled with ambitious growth and groundbreaking innovation, as stated by its Chairman Josh D’Amaro. Given the wealth of captivating Disney tales yet untold, we are thrilled to unveil an extraordinary number of upcoming projects in the coming period.
D’Amaro explained that the projects unveiled on Saturday are currently being worked on extensively, with designs already finalized and construction underway. He reassured the convention attendees that all the announcements they were about to hear were in progress, mentioning plans for a Disney Villains Land, two additional Cars-themed attractions at Florida’s Magic Kingdom Park within Walt Disney World Resort, as well as new Indiana Jones and Encanto attractions at Animal Kingdom.
