Gilmore Girls’ Jared Padalecki Weighs in On Rory’s Boyfriend Debate

Gilmore Girls’ Jared Padalecki Weighs in On Rory's Boyfriend Debate

As a dedicated Gilmore Girls fan since its premiere in 2000, I’ve watched every episode multiple times and even attended a few Stars Hollow-themed events. So when Jared Padalecki, aka Dean Forester, declared himself Team Jess, I was taken aback!

Gilmore Girls is more than just a show—it’s a lifestyle, a religion.

Due to this, even years after the series initially aired in 2000, viewers continue to argue over who was the ideal boyfriend for Rory, portrayed by Alexis Bledel: the rebellious Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia), who captivated her with their shared passion for reading; the refined Yale student and fan favorite Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry); or her first love, Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki).

But as it turns out, Jared himself has a take that might surprise fans.

The Supernatural alum playfully hinted to TopMob News at the Steel City Comic Con about which team he belongs: “I’m Team Jess. I am.” (Stay tuned for more from Jared’s interview on TopMob News, airing August 12.)

Yet, he isn’t the only former Gilmore Girls boyfriend who has an unexpected opinion.

“Interestingly enough,” Jared went on, “Milo is a friend and supports Team Dean. Someone shared a meme with me, showing him in his home office holding an Emmy nomination letter. In the corner, it read ‘Team Dean forever.’ So, I created my own ‘Team Jess forever’ using markers, mimicking Milo’s image but for you.”

In any tale, if someone is deeply invested and emotionally engaged, you find yourself saying, ‘This is why I’m doing it – to spark thoughts, reactions, and conversations around it.’ (42-year-old said this)

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the fictional world we all love, I’d like to share some thoughts about where Dean, from the beloved series, might be now if he were still with us. According to Jared Padalecki, who played this iconic character so brilliantly, it seems that Dean hasn’t strayed too far from his roots.

“He used to work at Dooce’s Market, the same place where Dean had his high school job on the show. He would secretly store the cornstarch there, thinking no one would steal it. However, when the series was rebooted, we learned that he has a family now, so I hope he’s not still hoarding cornstarch and is instead taking care of his loved ones properly.”

Although Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life concluded with Rory being pregnant, presumably with Logan’s child, it doesn’t automatically imply that all the previous cast members are now part of the Hunzberger family.

Take it from Rory’s best friend Lane Kim, played by Keiko Agena.

In her recent conversation with TopMob News, Keiko stated, “I’ve largely identified as a ‘Team Jess’ member throughout, and I don’t foresee that changing anytime soon.”

To clarify, the 50-year-old stated, “They shared similar passions – a fondness for reading and books. They enjoyed sparring with one another, and observing their dynamic was an entertaining experience.”

Although Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life concluded with Rory presumed to be pregnant with Logan’s child, it doesn’t imply that all the previous cast members have decided to join the Huntzberger family.

Take it from Rory’s best friend Lane Kim, played by Keiko Agena.

Keiko has consistently identified as a ‘team Jess’ member, she shared with TopMob News, and she doesn’t anticipate changing that anytime soon.

What Keiko believes is that the bond they shared with her spouse Shin Kawasaki, whom she’s been married to for 18 years, was the key element that could have ensured a lifetime of joy together.

She clarified, “There are other methods for growth, but in terms of personal development, it seems we all needed to mature. They were quite young when they first met. Yet, their mutual passion for discussing various topics and fostering mutual growth is what I believe forms the foundation of a strong relationship.”
