Supacell season 2 confirmed by Netflix after hit first season

As a movie reviewer with a keen eye for diversity and representation in media, I must say that Supacell has truly captured my heart. Having spent a significant portion of my formative years in South London, I can attest to the authenticity that Rapman brings to this series. The fact that it’s not just another superhero drama but one that features a Black cast from our very own UK is nothing short of refreshing.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I must say that one of the most electrifying shows to grace our Netflix screens this year is none other than “Supacell” – the pulse-pounding superhero saga conjured up by the creative mind of Rapman. This gripping series follows the lives of five extraordinary Black individuals hailing from South London, who inexplicably find themselves endowed with supernatural abilities.

Luckily for enthusiasts of the show who have longed for more episodes, Netflix appears to have taken notice – the series will indeed return for another season.

In a recent tweet from Netflix’s newly-rebranded account (now known as X), I learned about some exciting news. This announcement comes hot on the heels of the first season that garnered impressive viewership numbers.

In its initial release, the first season ranked second globally on Netflix’s viewership charts, amassing approximately 6.4 million views.

In a private conversation, he expressed his desire as follows: “I’ve indicated to them that I prefer a span of three seasons. However, the success of the first season will determine our future. Yet, I’ve been quite explicit about my intention to complete at least three seasons.”

As a seasoned movie critic with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently share that I have a three-season story brewing in my mind. While it has the potential to stretch beyond, for now, I am certain of its trajectory up until the third season. Having followed countless narratives throughout my career, I know what makes a story compelling and how to weave an engaging tapestry for audiences. This particular tale is no exception, as it promises to captivate viewers with its intricate plotlines and rich character development. I eagerly await bringing this vision to life on the big screen.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I find myself reflecting on the creator’s words. He expressed his aspiration that our series might pave the way for an increase in science fiction shows led by Black artists. Intriguingly, he posed a question: “When, in the realm of UK sci-fi productions, have you encountered one featuring a predominantly Black cast? Such instances are scarce, I must admit.”

“Even excluding the UK, if we consider American shows, characters such as Black Panther or Black Lightning might come to mind. Frankly, these are about as far as representation goes in the sci-fi/space genre. It’s almost as if there’s a question: ‘Why can’t Black characters appear in science fiction or space settings?'”

“So the hope is that this show does really well and it’s just the beginning. There’ll be others.”

Supacell season 1 is available to stream on Netflix now. Sign up for Netflix from £4.99 a month. Netflix is also available on Sky Glass and Virgin Media Stream.
