Modiphius Brings the Greatest Apocalyptic Game Back to Tabletop with Fallout: Power Play

Since its debut in 1997, the Fallout series has been a beloved favorite among gamers. The original game helped revitalize the RPG genre during a quiet period for video games in the 1990s, and Fallout remains one of the most popular RPG franchises today. Over the past two and a half decades, Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic world has expanded into numerous video games, inspired appearances in other games, faced several attempts at film adaptations (some of which were canceled), launched a TV series, and spawned memorable tabletop games. Now, another exciting tabletop experience is coming soon, and fans won’t want to miss Fallout: Power Play.

Modiphius Entertainment has become well-known for successfully adapting popular video game series – like Fallout – into tabletop games. They’ve created both wargames and immersive role-playing games that put players right in the Fallout universe. Their newest game, Fallout Power Play, is now available for pre-order, and I recently received a copy to review before the holidays.

Fallout: Power Play Throws 2-4 Players Against Each Other for Control of the Wastes

In this game for 2-4 players, you command one of four factions: the Brotherhood, Raiders, Super Mutants, or the Enclave. Players use their agents to compete for control of the Wasteland. The game is played in rounds and turns, and a round can end if a player earns enough Victory Points.

Each turn, players send out agents, complete quests, and earn influence, which translates into points. The first player to accumulate 10 Victory Points wins. However, despite sounding straightforward, the game is actually quite complex.

In addition to using Power Play cards to gain an edge over opponents while competing for control, the game introduces dangerous Wasteland Events. These events are designed to challenge even the strongest players as they try to conquer and dominate, ranging from devastating atomic bomb strikes on key locations to battles against fearsome creatures like the Deathclaw.

Players can choose from four distinct factions, each with its own special ability. These abilities provide advantages and ways to gain more power by completing the conditions listed on each card. After each round, scores are counted, and if no one has won, another round starts.

Fallout: Power Play Is Perfect For Game Night Gatherings

It’s easy to host game nights at home because you can play anything you own. Going to someone else’s place doesn’t always offer the same freedom, especially with complex board games that have a lot of pieces. What’s great about Fallout: Power Play is that it includes everything you need in one small, self-contained box that closes securely with a magnet.

Despite its small size, this game offers a surprisingly deep and replayable experience. Designed with unique mechanics by Resurrectionist Games, Fallout: Power Play ensures no two games are ever quite the same. While you’ll learn the challenges, the random draw of cards keeps every session unpredictable and exciting.

Plus, the game is simple to pick up, making it a great choice for family game nights – even if people aren’t familiar with the Fallout series. Importantly, the easy-to-learn rules don’t make the game any less competitive or challenging. Modiphius consistently strikes this balance, ensuring their games are both fun and engaging, no matter the system they use.

Pre-Orders for Fallout: Power Play Are Open Now

The game is scheduled to release in late January 2026, so now’s a great time to get ready! It’s designed for 2 to 4 players, ages 14 and up, and each game takes about 30 to 45 minutes – perfect for game night. While it likely won’t be available during the holidays, pre-ordering ensures you’ll receive it as soon as it ships.
