Star Wars: Sigourney Weaver Confirms Role in The Mandalorian & Grogu

As a die-hard Star Wars fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the galaxy far, far away since I was a kid, the news of Sigourney Weaver joining The Mandalorian and Grogu movie has me more excited than a Wookiee in a Kessel Run. With an Oscar nomination under her belt and a long history of portraying strong, iconic characters, I have no doubt that she’ll bring the same level of badassery to this new Star Wars adventure.

2026 marks the return of the Star Wars universe to theaters, featuring “The Mandalorian and Grogu” – a new movie that continues the story from the popular Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” At this year’s D23 Expo, sneak peeks of the film were shared, but many details about the project remain under wraps. Recently, it has been confirmed that Oscar-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver will be part of the movie, as revealed in an interview with Deadline. The specific role she’ll play in the story is yet to be disclosed.

As a thrilled fan, I can’t help but share this exciting news: I’ve been given the opportunity to contribute to the incredible series, “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” Just yesterday, I had the pleasure of encountering little Grogu for the first time! Before jetting off to London at year-end for a production of “The Tempest,” I’m busy with filming this amazing project.

What Is The Mandalorian and Grogu About?

Under the direction of Jon Favreau and produced by Favreau, Filoni, and Kennedy, the show titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu” will chronicle the continued journeys of Din Djarin / The Mandalorian (Pascal) and his small protege, Grogu.

In his initial announcement, Favreau expressed his delight at sharing tales in the detailed universe crafted by George Lucas. He’s thrilled about the opportunity to showcase the Mandalorian and his little ward, Grogu, on the big screen.

Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, noted that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have introduced two fresh and adored characters to Star Wars, and the new narrative seamlessly complements the big-screen experience.

Will The Mandalorian Get a Season 4?

Alongside the movie featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, there’s been plenty of discussion about whether or not the popular Disney+ show The Mandalorian will come back for another season. While creator Filoni has suggested that both projects are in development at the same time, no official details have been revealed since then.

Filoni told Entertainment Tonight that there are lots of moving parts in The Mandalorian Season 4 at the moment. He’s hesitant to make any firm commitments, as he’s always been, but he’s confident about the direction they’re taking now. He’s also eager for the upcoming Star Wars movie, which he believes will be exceptional with Jon Favreau at the helm. Favreau has become very knowledgeable about Star Wars, and their collaboration is a delight to Filoni, who can’t wait to reveal what they have in store for us in the future.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to be released on May 22, 2026.
