As a seasoned gamer and anime enthusiast who’s been sailing the Grand Line for far too long, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming second season of Netflix’s One Piece! Mackenyu, our beloved Roronoa Zoro, has already hinted at Tony Tony Chopper joining the crew, which means we’re one step closer to assembling the complete Straw Hat Pirates.
Mackenyu has played significant roles in numerous live-action anime adaptations throughout his acting career. Prior to his portrayal of pirate hunter Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s One Piece, he appeared in movies like Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Knight of The Zodiac, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable. With the start of One Piece’s second season, Mackenyu is ready to reprise his role as Zoro and has suggested hints about the Straw Hats’ return. Of particular interest, the actor has subtly teased the arrival of Tony Tony Chopper.
If the live-action season of “One Piece” continues to stick with its original storyline, Zoro is going to have a lot on his plate. As confirmed by creator Eiichiro Oda in a recent post, the Straw Hat crew will visit places like Loguetown, Little Garden, and Drum Island as their adventure goes on. For Roronoa Zolo (Zoro), this means engaging in battles against characters such as Mr. 3, Wapol, Buggy, Smoker, and other evil figures that inhabit the Grand Line. Fortunately, Zoro will have some fresh support on Drum Island since Tony Tony Chopper will be making his live-action debut there.
Zoro Spills The Beans
During a recent Instagram live stream, Mackenyu shared that he’s had a glimpse of Tony Tony Chopper’s live-action version and found it adorably charming. He also commended Inaki Godoy for mastering the Japanese language, expressing his appreciation for how well Luffy speaks the language in the live-action adaptation. Lastly, Mackenyu hinted that the action in the upcoming second season will surpass the first one significantly.
The Netflix adaptation has already chosen actors for Dr. Kureha, Princess Vivi, King Cobra, and Mr. 3, but it hasn’t yet been announced who will play the upcoming Straw Hat Pirate character. In addition to Chopper joining the cast, it’s likely that Nico Robin and Crocodile will also appear in the second season. Given the popularity of the first season, many fans are expected to revisit the Grand Line when One Piece’s live-action second season premieres.
