Following an unusually brief stint as the TARDIS traveler, Ncuti Gatwa bid farewell to Doctor Who at the conclusion of the previous season, and his Fifteenth Doctor transformed into no one else but Billie Piper. However, whether or not she will indeed assume the role of the Doctor is yet to be determined.
His brief tenure within the TARDIS marks him as the first Doctor since Christopher Eccleston who spent less than three full series.
Currently, Nico Rosio (Nico Gatwa) shared his motives behind departing from the popular BBC sci-fi series during a recent interview with Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday.
“Why did you walk away from Doctor Who?” Kuenssberg asked him.
Due to feeling the effects of aging and my body becoming weary, the actor explained that he had recently taken up ballet, implying a wise choice on his part.
He went on to say, “This is the best job one could ever have. Every actor yearns for it. However, since it’s exceptional, it demands a great deal from you – not just physically, but also emotionally and mentally.
“So, I – it was time,” he added.

Even though taking on the role of Gatwa in Doctor Who has been taxing in terms of body, mind, and emotions, he hasn’t completely shut the door on revisiting that universe someday.
When asked if he might reappear like David Tennant did, he responded with a vague promise: “I might never rule it out completely.
It’s not the first time Gatwa has alluded to the pressures of playing the Doctor.
In an exclusive behind-the-scenes interview I did for YouTube after wrapping up, I shared my thoughts: “From the get-go, we decided on this number of seasons. It’s a character that pushes you to your limits, not just physically but also emotionally and mentally.
The people portraying the Doctor are simply actors doing their job, no matter how much I might wish otherwise, we are all limited by our human nature. If only I could dedicate my entire existence to this role, but alas, my body is starting to remind me that it’s time for a rest.
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Disney+ outside of the UK.
