Mobile games used to be mostly simple puzzles like Candy Crush or quick, repetitive games like Flappy Bird. But mobile technology has improved a lot, and now you can play complex strategy games, detailed simulation games, and more on your phone. Arknights, a popular game from 2019, is a great example – it combines strategy, a rich story, and beautiful artwork. Now, a new game in the Arknights universe, called Arknights: Endfield, is scheduled to come out in early 2026.
The popular mobile game Arknights is getting a sequel, Arknights: Endfield, and this time it’s coming to more than just phones! While the original Arknights remains a mobile-only title (though a PC version is supposedly being developed), Endfield will launch on January 22nd, 2026 for PC (through Steam), PlayStation 5, and mobile devices. This new game expands on the world of the original and is shaping up to be a promising title for early 2026.
What Makes Arknights So Popular

While games like Genshin Impact often come to mind when people think of free-to-play gacha games, experienced players frequently recommend Arknights as one of the most generous and rewarding options for those who don’t spend money.
Despite including a gacha system, Arknights stands out from other free-to-play mobile RPGs. It cleverly blends tactical RPG elements with tower defense gameplay, which appeals to players looking for something different than typical open-world mobile games.
Although Arknights isn’t as widely popular as some other free-to-play mobile games, many fans see this as a positive. It has excellent ratings – 4.7 out of 5 stars on the Apple App Store and 4.4 on Google Play – and is frequently praised as one of the best mobile games available. Players appreciate that it’s generous to free players and features compelling gameplay that keeps them hooked. Regular updates with new characters and features also help maintain the game’s long-term appeal.
For five years, Arknights has remained a popular choice for players who enjoy gacha and tower defense games on their phones. Now, a new game in the Arknights universe is coming soon, and it will be available on more platforms, which could bring even more fans to the series.
What Sets Arknights: Endfield Apart From Its Predecessor
Even though Arknights remains popular, its developers are releasing a new spin-off game, Arknights: Endfield. While set in the same world, Endfield will be a very different experience. Unlike the original, it won’t be a tower defense game. Instead, it’s a real-time 3D strategy RPG focused on team battles, where carefully building your team and using the right skills will be key to success.
Although Arknights features a tower defense style with some idle elements, Endfield will offer fast-paced, real-time combat in an action RPG setting. The game will also include base building and factory management, reminiscent of games like Satisfactory. Players can expect to gather and manage resources alongside the action-packed combat.
The story in Endfield will differ from that of Arknights. While Arknights is set on the ruined Earth (Terra), Endfield takes place on one of its moons. Players will explore Talos-2, where they’ll find a civilization isolated from Earth by a disaster, forcing its original settlers to survive on their own. This allows Hypergryph to build on familiar elements while also forging a new and unique narrative direction.
Arknights: Endfield is scheduled to launch on January 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices. Unlike the first game, this new title will be available on PC and consoles from the start, which could attract a wider range of players. It will be free to play, with optional in-game purchases and a gacha system for obtaining characters and items.
