In addition to our overall Game of the Year list and the team’s favorite games, we’re highlighting the best PS5 titles of 2025 in specific categories. Today, we’re focusing on the best open-world game released on PS5 in 2025.
Bronze Trophy: Ghost of Yotei
Following the success of Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch has expanded on its unique wind-based movement system and set it within a larger, more open world. Players will journey through different regions, with Mount Yotei as a backdrop, to track down the mysterious Yotei Six, exploring towns and uncovering secrets along the way to find clues about their location.
Ghost of Yotei offers a stunning and detailed recreation of Japan, inviting players to lose themselves in its open world. While it doesn’t reinvent the genre, it’s a prime example of what open-world games can be at their finest.

Silver Trophy: Atomfall
This year, Atomfall is truly one of a kind in the open world genre. The game drops you into a broken, futuristic version of Great Britain, featuring a quaint village at its heart and a desolate world around it. Everywhere you explore holds clues to what happened, making discovery constantly engaging. While not massive in size, Atomfall expertly creates the atmosphere of a real English village, brimming with secrets and intrigue.

Gold Trophy: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Kojima Productions continues to create unique gaming experiences, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is no exception. The game still centers around delivering packages across a devastated landscape as Sam Bridges, but this sequel is more polished and offers new tools like improved combat abilities, vehicles, and the DHV Magellan to help him along the way.
Death Stranding 2’s world might seem empty at times, but that’s actually a strength. Players can work together to rebuild Australia, sharing resources to repair roads and structures. The game’s beautiful and diverse environments, combined with interesting characters you meet along the way, create a truly engaging experience.

Platinum Trophy: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Don’t expect time machines anytime soon, but if you’re looking to experience medieval life firsthand, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is as close as you’ll get. It’s a remarkable game featuring two massive open-world areas: the rural landscapes of Trosky and the bustling city of Kuttenberg, offering a truly immersive experience.
What truly sets Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 apart is the experience of discovery. The world is filled with hundreds of quests, realistic villages, merchants, and unexpected events. You’ll need to consider your clothing, face the repercussions of your actions, and build your reputation from scratch. It’s easily the most immersive medieval simulation ever created.
