Rory Feek Denies “Cult” Ties, Allegations of Endangering Daughter Indy

As a compassionate observer, I find myself deeply moved by the heart-wrenching tale of the Gallagher family. Having spent years working with families and children in crisis, I can only imagine the turmoil that this family is going through.

Rory Feek is telling his side of the story.

Following accusations from his eldest daughter Heidi Feek, the country singer wrote a heartfelt message to both Heidi and his daughter Hopie Feek in a blog post on August 31, titled “Dear Daughters.”

Expressing that he believed the internet was unsuitable for resolving family disagreements, the 59-year-old publicly criticized his grown children for leveling accusations against him. He wrote, “It’s always wrong. I suspect that one day, my older daughters, when they are more mature, will reflect on this and wish they had handled it differently.”

Instead of responding to the accusations by Heidi for two years, he chose not to engage because his priority has always been his children – “I love my kids.”

Amidst the recent stir caused by fresh allegations and legal proceedings from a person I deeply admire, who’s 37 years old, Rory finally decided to speak up. His take on our ongoing issue was, “In the end, love is the solution.”

A significant part of the sisters’ statements revolves around their younger sister, Indiana (also known as Indy), who is the child of Rory and his deceased wife, Joey Feek. Indiana, who has Down Syndrome, is ten years old. Joey was one half of the country duo Rory + Joey; she passed away in 2016 following a long struggle with cancer.

Rory mentioned that before Joey passed away, they had become acquainted with families and people within a community called Homestead Heritage in Texas. This organization identifies itself as an intentional Christian community focused on agriculture and crafts, but there have been allegations in the past that members of this group were involved in acts of sexual abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence, according to The Texas Observer.

Rory clarified, “If you’re wondering if Homestead Heritage or Greycliff resembles a cult, the answer is they do not. It’s important to remember that there are always individuals who may behave differently in any group, often misunderstood as ‘bad apples.’ These people are simply living in a way that others might find unfamiliar or hard to comprehend. Instead of labeling it as a cult and brushing it aside, it’s more beneficial to delve deeper into their practices and motives to truly understand them.”

Additionally, he imputed that his daughters hadn’t shared with him the accusations directed towards Homestead Heritage.

He clarified what upset him most about the accusations was the fact that no one bothered to contact him for more information about them or anyone else. Instead, they simply searched online, found negative comments from disgruntled former members and random individuals over time, and accepted those as facts without questioning their validity.

Subsequently, Heidi and Hopie levied allegations against Rory in an interview with Taste of Country and across various social media platforms.

“Heidi posted on Instagram on August 29th, expressing that Rory frequently placed Hopie and me in situations where people exploited us, with Hopie experiencing much more harm than I did. However, she isn’t prepared to share that experience publicly just yet. Lately, it was discovered that Indy was entrusted to a group known for physically and sexually abusing children.”

Rory, the one who tied the knot with Rebecca, Indy’s former teacher, in July, mentioned that their youngest child “is currently receiving more love and care than ever before.”

For the very first time, she gained a mother, as Joey passed away when Indiana was only two years old.

During their honeymoon, Rory and Rebecca entrusted Indiana to a family that had raised some doubts for Heidi. However, Rory had praised them in his blog post as “the kindest and most beautiful individuals I’ve encountered throughout my entire life.”

He went on to note that Indiana, who served as a flower girl in her sister Hopie’s 2018 wedding, “absolutely” misses her sisters after he banned her from visiting them.

“Approximately every two months, I would allow Indiana to stay overnight with her older sisters in Alabama. However, around a year back, I stopped granting this permission. This was primarily due to the fact that they disregarded my desires whenever she was present.”

Recognizing their contrasting opinions on various matters, the self-identified conservative Christian expressed concern that Heidi and Hopie disregarded his preferences regarding boundaries for Indiana, which led to further tension within the family.

In an unexpected phone call from Child Protective Services, Rory learned that allegations of neglect against Indiana were made, along with other claims. As a result, Heidi and Hopie waived their privilege to communicate with their sister due to their actions in recording their conversations with her and leading her astray for the purpose of gathering evidence against Rory. It became evident that Heidi was not acting in Indiana’s best interest but instead sought revenge and any means possible to cause harm to Rory, so Rory made the decision to keep Indiana away from this situation.

In reaction to their father’s post, Heidi and Hopie expressed on Instagram, “Although it’s sad to admit, we’re simply glad to have heard from you.”

Heidi voiced out that Rory’s remarks about Indiana’s care left her feeling deeply saddened, and she defended her deceased stepmother in response.

In her note, Heidi expressed, “I’m deeply touched by Joey.” Later, she questioned, “How can you assert that for the first time, she is now a mother?”

Heidi and Hopie set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover their legal costs while taking legal action against their father, and also to assist Indiana in some way.

The text states, “Hopie and Heidi are engaged in a court case to ensure that Indy gets essential care and protection, as she requires it urgently. This procedure is intricate, emotionally taxing, and financially demanding. They wouldn’t be taking on this challenge unless it was vital for the sake of Indy’s safety.”
