The fantasy anime “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” has been steadily gaining popularity since its initial release, with the creator explaining why the franchise has branched out into numerous projects. Originally based on Fuse and Mitz Vah’s light novel series, the anime made its debut in 2018, and due to its success, it went on for two more seasons, with the third season airing new episodes this summer. However, the franchise didn’t stop there, as it also produced OVAs, a feature film, and even a spin-off series.
The popular anime “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” has experienced growth with its latest film, TV seasons, among other releases, indicating it will likely grow even more as the series progresses in the future. During Anime Expo 2024 this past summer, ComicBook spoke to producer Shinichiro Narita, who shared his insights on why the anime remains a success and resonates with viewers. According to Narita, the key lies in the relatability of the emotions portrayed within the series.
Why That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Keeps Getting Bigger
Narita explained, “In the story, Rimuru’s feelings are presented authentically. The series is meticulously detailed and its characters openly express their emotions. For instance, when they’re joyful, you can see their happiness. When they’re melancholic, the narrative becomes heavy and somber. This is why viewers connect with That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. The ability to empathize with its characters is crucial to its appeal. It’s one reason why the anime is gaining more fans.”
