Nigel McGuinness Reveals Who He Wants To Wrestle Next After AEW All in Appearance

As a veteran gamer of wrestling lore, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the return of Nigel McGuinness at AEW All In was nothing short of electrifying. His entrance to the Oasis theme song was a nostalgic blast from the past, reminding us all of his legendary career in Ring of Honor and beyond. It’s been a decade since he last stepped into the ring, but McGuinness proved that age is just a number when it comes to wrestling talent.

As an ardent fan, I was absolutely taken aback when Nigel McGuinness made his unexpected appearance at the AEW All In event, striding into the ring for the Casino Gauntlet match. The air filled with nostalgia as the Oasis tune that accompanied him throughout his illustrious career echoed around the arena, a melody most memorably heard during his days in Ring of Honor. Since he last stepped into the ring for a match in 2011 when he retired from active competition, there have been countless “what if” scenarios left unexplored. His physical prowess, evident as he deftly navigated the ring, served as a testament to his enduring abilities, leaving me yearning for at least one more match from this legendary wrestler. Ever since both Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson joined AEW, fans like myself have been eagerly anticipating their highly-demanded showdown.

In the Gauntlet contest, he encountered another skilled wrestler, Zack Sabre Jr., who recently won the NJPW G1 Climax. This is a highly anticipated match-up that fans have been dreaming about for years since both men started in the industry. McGuinness understands that his body might not allow him to wrestle regularly anymore, as he mentioned in a recent interview that he wants to preserve his commentating career. Nevertheless, there are specific instances where he would make exceptions if given an opportunity.

Speaking with Uproxx Sports, McGuinness stated that Bryan is undoubtedly the top contender due to our history together. There’s an immense amount of emotion connected to a bout against him. Zack Sabre Jr. would be an ideal opponent. Adam Copeland, much like Bryan, has a knack for breaking bones. There are numerous gifted wrestlers, and Lee Moriarty has been kind enough to spar with me during the shows at Collision, which has been incredibly beneficial to me.

McGuinness has openly expressed his wish for one last bout with Danielson before they both retire permanently, going so far as to state that he’d emerge from retirement only if it was against him at a venue as grandiose as Wembley Stadium. However, this dream match didn’t quite materialize this year as planned. Yet, McGuinness managed to wrestle in the presence of his loved ones, while Danielson not only competed but also clinched the AEW World Championship.

McGuinness has been a mainstay on the AEW Collision commentary team since its launch, consistently offering wit and insightful commentary to viewers at home every week. Prior to this, he was a color commentator in WWE from 2016 until his release in 2022. Following his retirement, he also worked on the commentary desk for ROH.
