Stranger Things Creators' New Series Casts Marvel and Beetlejuice Stars

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watching aficionado with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the recent announcements from Netflix have me more than just a little excited! The Duffer brothers, the genius minds behind Stranger Things, are at it again with not one but TWO new series.

The new show, titled The Boroughs, created by the minds behind Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, has recently bolstered its cast with actors from Marvel and Beetlejuice. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Alfred Molina, who played Spider-Man 2’s Doc Ock, and Geena Davis, star of Beetlejuice, are among the new additions to the series. Also joining the cast are Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman. At present, no specific character details have been disclosed except for their names: Sam (Molina), Renee (Davis), Judy (Woodward), Wally (O’Hare), Art (Peters), and Jack (Pullman). Additionally, it has been announced that Ben Taylor will serve as executive producer of the series and is expected to direct the series premiere and several subsequent episodes.

Among the shows that the Duffer brothers are currently developing for Netflix, one is titled “The Boroughs”. Earlier, Netflix commissioned “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen”, created by Haley Z. Boston and the Duffers, as well. Regarding “The Boroughs”, this series is depicted as follows: In what appears to be a serene retirement community, a team of unconventional champions are required to collaborate to prevent an extraterrestrial danger from taking what they don’t possess – time. The series originates from writers and executive producers Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Addiss and Matthews serve as the showrunners, with the Duffers, Taylor, and Hilary Leavitt of Upside Down Pictures acting as executive producers.

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is Also In The Works

Additionally, Netflix has another project in development from the Duffers titled “Something Terrible Is About to Occur“. This chilling horror series takes place at a wedding and centers around the bride and groom in the days leading up to their disastrous wedding day. Rest assured, this isn’t a spoiler – it’s just indicated by the show’s title. Andrea Sperling serves as the executive producer on the project alongside Boston.

The Duffer Brothers expressed their astonishment upon initially reading Haley’s script, praising her as an extraordinary newcomer with a unique style. Her work is dark, chilling, humorous, and distinctly Haley’s. They feel privileged to be involved in producing her debut series, eagerly looking forward to unveiling her creative vision to the world.

Davis Is Not Returning for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Although Davis has been chosen for the role in “The Boroughs”, it’s important to note that she won’t appear in this week’s release of the “Beetlejuice” sequel, as she and Alec Baldwin, who portrayed ghost pair Adam and Barbara in the original movie, have confirmed they won’t be reprising their roles.

Davis clarified, “I’m not part of the remake. I guess you thought I might be? Well, let me tell you, I won’t be because in my belief, spirits don’t grow older… And as for myself, I haven’t.”

Director Tim Burton also confirmed that Davis and Baldwin wouldn’t appear in the sequel.

Burton shared, “I didn’t merely want to check off boxes for this sequel. Although they were significant components in the original, my focus was elsewhere. The key factor for me was the theme – three generations of mother, daughter, and granddaughter. This concept served as the core of the story, and it’s what drew me into it. I couldn’t have made this film personally back then.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opens in theaters September 6th.
