Arcane Fans Who Never Played League of Legends Can Finally Play It… In 2 Years

League of Legends is a hugely popular game, and its player base grew even more after the release of the Netflix series, Arcane. Despite its popularity, League of Legends can be difficult for newcomers to learn due to its complexity and long history. Riot Games is planning a major update – essentially a relaunch – to make the game more accessible and appealing to new players, acting as a fresh start without being a completely new game.

Bloomberg first reported that League of Legends is getting a major makeover, and Riot Games has since confirmed the news. The update aims to make the game more welcoming for new players and includes several key changes. These include a redesigned in-game client, a visual refresh of the Summoner’s Rift map, adjustments to gameplay, and updates to Runes and the pre-game setup.

A new video from the creators of League of Legends offers a quick look at some planned updates. While the timeline isn’t set in stone, they’re aiming to release these changes around 2027, and will share more specifics in 2026. Both detailed developer posts and videos will be released to keep current players informed and help new players understand what’s coming.

League of Legends Is Being Reborn

Since its release in 2009, League of Legends has become a hugely popular online game. But because it’s so complex, it can be tough for new players to learn. A fresh start, designed with beginners in mind, would make the game more accessible and easier to pick up.

As a long-time player, I’m really curious to see how these changes will affect those of us who’ve been playing for years, and if they’ll really change how the game feels. It’s amazing to think about how much League of Legends has influenced the MOBA genre – even games like Pokémon Unite owe a lot to it! People used to say League was easier to pick up than other MOBAs, but honestly, some of the recent updates have made it feel a little harder for new players to learn.

Okay, so getting into League of Legends can still be pretty tough if you’re new, but 2XKO is a cool way for us Arcane fans to hang out with those characters and the world we love. They’ve got Vi and Jinx as playable characters, which is awesome! And yeah, Riot’s still working on that League of Legends MMO, but honestly, it feels like it’s going to be a long time before we actually get to play it.

Remakes of beloved games are rare; developers usually prefer to create sequels, even if those sequels aren’t drastically different. Riot Games’ overhaul of League of Legends falls somewhere between a large content update and a full sequel, like Overwatch 2. Updates like these can be a great way to attract new players and grow a game’s audience, but they also risk alienating longtime fans, particularly if the changes are substantial.
