As a seasoned cinema enthusiast who has navigated countless dark alleys of horror films, I must say that Leigh Whannell’s latest foray into the realm of the supernatural, “Wolf Man“, piques my interest significantly. Having been a fan of his writing prowess since the days of ‘Saw’ and ‘Insidious’, it’s intriguing to see him step behind the director’s chair this time around.
It’s possible you may not recognize Leigh Whannell’s name, but he is the writer behind such horror classics as ‘Saw’, where he also acted as one of the trapped victims in Jigsaw’s basement. Additionally, he has penned all the Insidious films and the highly praised adaptation of The Invisible Man. Notably, he will be revisiting Universal’s classic monsters with an upcoming Wolf Man trailer.
In this movie, the storyline unfolds as a man takes charge instead of penning it down. His life and that of his family are under threat from a lethal werewolf, which appears only during full moons and terrorizes them at night. However, as the nights progress, the man’s behavior becomes increasingly peculiar.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled about the upcoming film starring Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Sam Jaeger, and Matilda Firth. This chilling production revolves around a menacing werewolf that unleashes terror during full moons. Initially, there was buzz surrounding Ryan Gosling as the lead, which would have been captivating given his diverse acting portfolio, but unexpectedly, Christopher Abbott stepped into the role instead. Regrettably, Justin Lin – renowned for his work on the Fast & Furious series – was originally set to direct, only to withdraw from the project.
This indicates that Whannell has directed four films so far, including “Insidious: Chapter 3,” “Upgrade,” and “The Invisible Man.” He has proven himself to be equally skilled in directing movies as he is in scriptwriting for these projects.
Universal and Blumhouse will release the project in cinemas on 17th January 2025
