As a fellow member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a passionate fan of Lindsay Arnold, I must say her recent TikTok video has left me feeling inspired and enlightened. Growing up in the same faith, I can relate to her experiences and her unwavering spirit.
I’m making deliberate strides to challenge and disprove any preconceived notions about my faith, which might arise from the latest reality TV series, as a dedicated follower.
As a devotee who once graced the stage of “Dancing With the Stars,” having been brought up within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I felt compelled to express my views on the show titled “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” shortly after its debut on Hulu, September 6.
In a TikTok video posted on September 10th, the professional dancer identified himself as a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is also known as being a Mormon. He shared that this church has had a tremendously positive impact on his life.
Arnold, aged 30, went on saying, “Much like personal beliefs, cultural backgrounds, or family ties, each of us has unique experiences that shape our lives, perspectives, and essentially define who we are as individuals. While I recognize the church has been a source of light and positivity in my own life, I also acknowledge it may not hold the same significance for others.
This documentary, titled “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives“, spotlights eight prominent figures in Utah’s online community who are often seen on MomTok: Taylor Frankie Paul, Demi Engemann, Jenn Affleck, Jessi Ngatikaura, Whitney Leavitt, Mikayla Matthews, Layla Taylor, and Mayci Neeley.
And although the opening shot in the trailer for the series shows the women wearing matching long, pale blue wool coats and walking hand-in-hand in front of a Mormon temple, Arnold can’t relate.
In her TikTok video, Arnold expressed that she’s been attending church all her life and has never coordinated blue coats with anyone else there, not once. She admitted feeling a bit puzzled about it, saying, “I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘What connection does this have to the church?’
She stated that her husband and family, including church leaders and those in her community, have consistently encouraged her to pursue her career aspirations and personal goals.
In the end, Arnold expressed her views on “The Secret Lives of Mormon Lives” by stating that she doesn’t harbor any anger regarding the portrayal.
She expressed that many viewers seem displeased or angry regarding the show, but personally, she didn’t share those feelings. Instead, she admitted to having enjoyed watching it.
In episode three of that captivating series, I just couldn’t help but question it all. You see, several cast members received Botox injections and were prepped with laughing gas. This little tidbit had me chuckling, Arnold, as if the drama wasn’t already enough!
She mentioned that a humorous aspect which garnered much attention was the idea of using laughing gas during a Botox procedure, something she found amusing. However, despite her numerous Botox treatments, neither her father nor her sister, who are both cosmetic injectors, have ever suggested using laughing gas for the procedure.
As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur, I’d like to clarify a common misunderstanding about LDS women and their careers – a misconception that my personal journey has taught me is far from the truth. Growing up, I was fortunate to witness the hard work and dedication of both my parents, who were not only devoted family members but also successful in their respective professions. This experience has been instrumental in shaping my perspective on the multifaceted roles LDS women can play in today’s world.
She stated, “I have never felt that I was brought up to be a homemaker for my spouse and children. Instead, my parents were instrumental in encouraging me to pursue my career as a dancer. They never suggested or implied that I should stay at home and raise a family, implying that it was my destiny.
In summary, Arnold has been incredibly committed to her career. She danced on “Dancing With the Stars” for a span of 15 seasons until her departure in 2022. A year later, she expressed on TikTok that she didn’t wish to part her family or temporarily relocate her two daughters, Sage (aged 3) and June (who is 16 months old), from their home in Utah, as the show is filmed in Los Angeles.
She expressed that her husband, who shares her faith as an LDS member, has consistently encouraged her in her pursuit of a career and personal goals. In fact, she was fully backed in all endeavors by her husband, family, spiritual mentors, and community.
Ultimately, Arnold concluded that she didn’t take offense to the portrayal in “The Secret Lives of Mormon Lives”.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself in a unique position to express my thoughts on the recent television series that has sparked quite the conversation. While many seem to be overwhelmed with frustration and dissatisfaction regarding this show, I must confess that I don’t share those sentiments. Instead, I found myself captivated, thoroughly entertained by the spectacle unfolding before me.
