In a delightful twist for Alien franchise enthusiasts, Marvel Comics is offering fans the opportunity to delve deeper into the saga of “Alien: Romulus” by narrating the events that led to the catastrophic incidents on the interconnected space stations Romulus and Remus. This enticing prequel comic promises to unravel the mysteries surrounding the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, which garnered widespread acclaim from critics and a substantial box office revenue of $315.7 million against a production budget of just $80 million.
Zac Thompson, known for his work on Youndu, X-Men Black, and Into the Unbeing, is penning Alien: Romulus. Much like director Fede Alvarez, Thompson harbors a deep passion for the Alien series, and he’s channeling that excitement into this venture.
Thompson expressed his excitement about being part of the “Alien” series, which has fueled his fascination with body horror throughout his life. He added that collaborating with Fede Alvarez to create a prequel for “Alien: Romulus” was like a dream come true and a task he doesn’t take lightly. The end product is an edge-of-your-seat, terrifying tale that gradually evolves into something completely unexpected.
(Alien: Romulus SPOILERS FOLLOW)
As a die-hard Alien fan, let me share my take on the plot of “Alien: Romulus.” Following the events of the original Alien and before the sequel, Aliens, this story unfolds. In this film by Alvarez, we join a band of spirited young adults from a mining settlement, embarking on a daring mission to plunder cryo-chambers at the Romulus/Remus station. These chambers would prove crucial for their long voyage to a distant colony. Upon arrival, however, we find the station eerily abandoned and silent.
In the movie “Alien: Romulus”, we delve into snippets of the station’s troubled past. The story begins by unveiling that a xenomorph cocoon, found aboard the wreckage of the USCSS Nostromo (the ship where Ellen Ripley served), was taken to the station. Later in the film, Romulus’s android scientist, Rook, reveals that the xenomorph from the cocoon escaped and brutally killed the crew, an event we will witness unfold in Marvel’s prequel comic. Additionally, the movie hints at more information about the “Prometheus Strain” being developed on the station, a project focused on blending human and xenomorph DNA to create ‘perfect humans’. This aspect of the franchise piques the curiosity of many fans, as they eagerly anticipate further exploration.
