As a lifelong Transformers fan who grew up with Optimus Prime and Megatron battling it out on my television screen, watching “Transformers One” was nothing short of a revelation. The film not only offered an intriguing backstory for our favorite characters but also delved deep into the history of Cybertron itself.
In Transformers One, we not only got to understand how Optimus Prime and Megatron rose to leadership among the Autobots and Decepticons respectively, but the prequel storyline also showed us the transformation of Orion Pax and D-16 from simple mining robots into fully-fledged Transformers. Their initial mission, which they undertook alongside future Autobots Elita-1 and Bumblebee, provided them with the necessary support to uncover the real truth about Cybertron. This revelation, concerning the Primes, Sentinel Prime, and a grim reality about their home planet, bestowed upon Orion and D-16 new abilities that ultimately altered the course of history forever.

The True Origin of Cybertron
According to Alpha Trion’s account, Sentinel Prime turned against his fellow Primes, causing massive destruction on Cybertron while aligning with the Quintessons. He stole Transformer Cogs from countless Cybertronians and forced ‘bots like D-16 and Orion Pax into mines to mine Energon for the Quintessons. Alpha Trion disclosed these hidden truths, using cogs from fallen Primes to empower Orion (B-127), D-16, Elita-1, and others to transform for the first time. However, their challenges were far from resolved.
Throughout the movie, Sentinel Prime’s henchmen make strategic attacks, forcing the main characters into hiding and capturing Alpha Trion. Regrettably, Sentinel has no intention of letting Trion live as a witness to his wrongdoings, resulting in Trion’s permanent elimination. However, Alpha’s message is one that the group intends to disseminate widely, and with their newly acquired transforming abilities, they plan to take the fight directly to Sentinel, aiming to end his reign.
How Everyone Becomes Transformers
The treachery of Sentinel shatters D-16 deeply, leading him down a path towards becoming the malevolent Megatron, determined to assemble an army and protect Cybertron from such deceit in the future. In his quest for power, Megatron confronts Sentinel Prime physically with his own hands. Notably, the “High Guard” were already capable of transformation, but a majority of the Autobots were not.
Upon Orion Pax’s transformation into Optimus Prime, he obtains the Matrix of Leadership. With this newfound power, Optimus enables all Cybertronians to transform, thereby initiating the war that would later become iconic among Transformers enthusiasts. In a short span, we catch glimpses of characters like Ironhide, Jazz, and Wheeljack undergoing their first transformations, demonstrating that the makers of Transformers One weren’t shy about delving into the franchise’s history to shape its destiny.
