As a connoisseur of acting talent, I must say that these gentlemen, from Edward Norton to Adam Scott, have truly graced our screens with their diverse and captivating performances. Each has embarked on a unique journey, from noir dramas to comedy gold, and even a return to the beloved Kevin Smith universe.
Just as a knowledgeable mentor once expressed, friendship is a genuine treasure. It’s bestowed without any conditions or demands, and true companionship doesn’t require thankfulness.
Indeed, those insightful lines were spoken by Mr. Feeny, the character portrayed by William Daniels in the TV series ‘Boy Meets World‘. Over time, he has had the chance to meet up again with his on-screen pupils, specifically Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle. In fact, as recently as June this year, Daniels shared a photo on Instagram featuring himself, the trio, and his wife Bonnie Bartlett Daniels, captioning it “A little reunion with my favorite students!!”.
In a classic gesture of a dedicated student, the threesome – the hosts of the rewatch podcast “_Pod Meets World_” – extended an invitation to one of their past co-stars to share memories with them during the July 2022 episode.
As a die-hard fan, let me tell you, I was always the serious one compared to your youthful exuberance. Often, I’d find myself tucked away in my dressing room while you all were laughing and joking around before the cameras started rolling. But then, just like magic, they’d call out for me, “Mr. Daniels, we’re ready for you,” and off I’d go to join the action.
But not without a hint of FOMO. “You guys were having a ball,” he continued. “And I’d taken it very seriously. Frankly, I wish I were one of you.”
Besides them, it wasn’t just the former cast members of the series who gathered for a mini reunion. Ben Savage, too, participated in fan gatherings with his co-stars. However, as Fishel revealed to Variety in 2023, Savage “ghosted us” and they, Friedle, and Strong hadn’t been in touch with him for years. He has reminisced about some fond memories from Boy Meets World, like the final scene of the series in 2000 where Daniels says “class is dismissed.
In 2021, Savage shared with Us Weekly that filming a particular scene was challenging because it symbolized someone shutting a door on our shared childhood memories. The scene carried a heavy significance and was deeply emotional for everyone involved. Having invested seven years into the series, starting at age 11, when he heard “Class dismissed,” Savage knew it marked a significant milestone. He was about to embark on college life at Stanford soon after that day, which further underscored the end of our youthful days. Regardless, the scene remained emotionally impactful for us and held great meaning.
Since that very first school year ended 31 years ago, the students (or “stars”) have moved on to various significant achievements. To celebrate the show’s anniversary, let’s take a look at where the cast members are now.
Savage played Cory Matthews on Boy Meets World, which anchored ABC’s TGIF lineup from 1993 to 2000.
After completing his political science degree from Stanford in the year 2004, he made appearances on television shows like “Party of Five” and “Chuck,” as well as some independent films. Following his role as Shawn Hunter on “Boy Meets World,” Strong gained significant attention, particularly for his parts in Eli Roth’s 2002 horror sleeper hit “Cabin Fever” and its 2009 sequel. He was also a main character in the brief-running sitcom “Pepper Dennis” and provided the voice for Brick Flagg in the animated series “Kim Possible.” Later, he reprised his role as Shawn in seven episodes of “Girl Meets World.
Apart from acting, Strong has also ventured behind the scenes, penning, directing, and producing several shorts and the 2017 TV movie “Micah the Jerk” (originally intended for his brother Shiloh Strong, who was initially considered for the role of Eric Matthews). His most recent directorial work, “Typhoon—We’re In It,” was recognized as the Best Music Video at the Vortex Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror Film Festival in October 2022.
In 2013, Strong married Alexandra Barreto and their son, Indigo, was born in December 2014.
In a recent appearance on “Girl Meets World,” Friedle reprised his role as Eric Matthews, but during this interval, his voice has gained widespread recognition in various animated series such as “Kim Possible,” “Teen Titans Go!,” “DC Super Hero Girls,” Disney XD’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” (as Star Lord Peter Quill), and “The Legend of Vox Machina.
Prior to standing up as best man at Fishel and Karp’s wedding, I had the honor of doing the same for “Step by Step” star Jason Marsden in 2004. Daniel, who has won two Emmys for his role in St. Elsewhere and was also a cast member of the musical 1776, as well as providing the voice of K.I.T.T., David Hasselhoff’s car on Knight Rider, gained a new set of admirers by playing Mr. Feeny on Boy Meets World.
Following his tenure as president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1999 to 2001, Daniels went on to make guest appearances in shows such as Scrubs, Boston Legal, The Closer, and had a multi-episode role on Grey’s Anatomy in 2012. At the age of 97, Daniels’ last physical acting work was reprising the role of Mr. Feeny on Girl Meets World.
