As a lifelong Sega fan who grew up with Sonic the Hedgehog, today’s Sonic Central left me utterly thrilled! The collaboration with DC Comics is not just unexpected, but it feels like a perfect fit. I mean, remember when we found out that Sonic was a big Flash comics fan in the movies? Now, seeing him transformed into the Flash is almost surreal!
As a diehard Sega fan, today’s Sonic Central left me absolutely thrilled! The biggest surprise? A mind-blowing collaboration with DC Comics! Fast forward to March 2025, and we’ll be diving into a Sonic comic series that brings together the heroes of my beloved universe with the Justice League. It’s a five-issue monthly series penned by veteran Sonic scribe Ian Flynn, with a plot that demands teamwork to save their worlds. The artist for this epic crossover is yet to be revealed, but I can hardly wait!

Beyond the comics, enthusiasts of Sonic can anticipate an array of merchandise tied to the crossover event coming up, such as toys, clothing, and other items. This merchandise is set to be released starting from fall 2025. During the broadcast, Ivo Gerscovich from Sega unveiled that this collaboration will continue into 2026. It’s uncertain whether we’ll witness these DC redesigns in a Sonic video game, but it’s likely they’ll show up in at least one of the various Sonic mobile games. At present, this is mere speculation, yet it wouldn’t be surprising. In fact, the recent Sonic Central presentation displayed numerous skins for mobile games like “Sonic Forces” and “Sonic Dash”, so it’s not far-fetched to imagine these DC designs receiving a similar makeover.
A collaboration between Sonic and DC might seem like it’s out of left field, but it is kind of fitting. In the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, Sonic has been shown to be a big fan of Flash comics, with a huge stash of older issues first seen in his cavern, and later in his home with Tom and Maddie Wachowski. Actually seeing Sonic given a design based on the Flash is pretty cool, and it’ll be interesting to see all the various places these designs end up over the next two years!
