Black Ops 6 to launch into NVIDIA's GeForce NOW cloud gaming service on release day

What you need to know

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, developed by Treyarch Studios and published by Activision, is set for an October 25 release date.
  • The game will be available on NVIDIA’s GeForce Now cloud streaming service for those who own it on Steam or Battle.net. The Microsoft Store version available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers is not included.
  • Xbox’s merger with Activision was marred by regulators with concerns about a potential monopoly in the cloud gaming sector, which led to Xbox selling off the cloud gaming rights for Activision’s catalog to Ubisoft.

As a seasoned gaming analyst with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the recent developments surrounding Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 have been quite intriguing. The strategic moves by companies like NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Activision are a testament to the ever-evolving landscape of the gaming industry.

To fully immerse yourself in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, powered by an NVIDIA RTX 4080 GPU, make sure your GeForce Now account is all set up. On their official website, NVIDIA announced that Black Ops 6 will be one of the 22 games joining the streaming service in October. Unfortunately, the Xbox Game Pass version on the Microsoft Store does not appear to be compatible with GeForce Now.

NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW service, accessible across North America and Europe, delivers cloud-streamed gaming using powerful server arrays equipped with GeForce RTX 4080 GPUs. The service provides different membership levels at varying costs, with the premium tier guaranteeing top frame rates and ray tracing capabilities. To play Black Ops 6 through GeForce NOW, you must have previously bought the game on either Steam or Battle.net.

It’s unclear if Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on Xbox Cloud Gaming (formerly known as xCloud). During the legal battle over Microsoft’s acquisition of COD’s publisher, Activision, regulatory bodies in the UK expressed concerns about the emerging cloud-gaming market and blocked the merger. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) argued that Microsoft was unfairly favoring certain competitors by signing licensing agreements with services like NVIDIA and Boosteroid.

Ultimately, Microsoft reached a deal to purchase Activision’s entire library of games, such as Call of Duty, with plans to incorporate them into Ubisoft+, their cloud gaming platform permanently. This agreement was approved by regulators, enabling the merger to be finalized. However, Ubisoft has not disclosed whether Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will become available on their service at launch.

Apart from announcing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, NVIDIA also unveiled a total of 21 more games set to join their cloud service in October. Here are some of them:

  • THRONE AND LIBERTY
  • Sifu
  • Bear and Breakfast
  • Monster Jam Showdown
  • TerraTech Worlds
  • Europa
  • Neva
  • MechWarrior 5: Clans
  • A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead
  • Worshippers of Cthulhu
  • No More Room in Hell 2
  • Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
  • Life is Strange: Double Exposure
  • Artisan TD
  • ASKA
  • DUCKSIDE
  • Dwarven Realms
  • Selaco
  • Spirit City: Lofi Sessions
  • Starcom: Unknown Space
  • Star Trek Timelines

Apart from introducing fresh games, GeForce NOW has also shared plans for improvements on their user account dashboard. These enhancements enable players to view specifics about their gaming time and gaming records.

Titled Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, this new installment, developed by Treyarch Studios and published by Activision, marks a significant milestone as it will debut simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass. Interestingly, this practice was once vehemently opposed by former Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. The game’s launcher has seen considerable updates lately, and during the Call of Duty: Next event, Treyarch executives revealed that the gaming experience is evolving, aiming to reach their desired destination.
