In a surprising revelation that’s stirred up the cryptocurrency world, HBO’s new documentary titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Enigma” claims to have unmasked Peter Todd as the likely individual behind the enigmatic figure of Bitcoin [BTC]’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

This revelation comes amidst prior speculation about prominent figures like Leonard “Len” Sassaman or Nick Szabo as the creator of BTC.

In the documentary prepared by Cullen Hobak, it’s said that he presented Todd and Adam Back with thorough evidence, and after doing so, Hobak declared Todd to be the person behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

In light of recent developments, Peter Todd directly responded to the claims regarding X (previously Twitter) by saying…

“I’m not Satoshi.”

In an email, Todd voiced his doubts concerning Hoback’s findings, implying that Hoback, known for exposing the identity of the QAnon conspiracy for HBO, might have been reaching too far by proposing Todd as Nakamoto.

Todd’s remarks express doubts about the documentary’s assertions, revealing his disbelief towards the conjecture suggesting his participation.

He said,

“Yes, that interview did happen and I believe that specific shot isn’t deepfaked.”

Todd added,

Indeed, I’m not Satoshi, but it’s interestingly ironic that someone who made a documentary about QAnon is now using the same pattern of coincidental conspiracy theories.

For those unaware, Peter Todd has playfully claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto on multiple occasions.

In a 2019 “What Bitcoin Did” podcast, Todd quipped to host Peter McCormack and said,

“I am Satoshi, as is everyone else.”

As we chatted, Todd revealed a fascinating tidbit: he bought his first Bitcoin back in October 2010, when each coin was worth roughly 20 cents. That’s around two years after the release of Bitcoin’s original white paper on October 31, 2008. I wish I had been there at that time to make a similar investment!

Todd’s work history demonstrates considerable proficiency in practical cryptography and the creation of digital currencies as well.

His GitHub profile labels him as a consultant specializing in cryptography, which probably explains his extensive work in Bitcoin’s development.

Starting from 2014, Todd has been serving as a Bitcoin Core Developer for Coinkite, a well-recognized supplier of Bitcoin’s underlying technology infrastructure.

Moreover, he has occupied prominent positions in the cryptocurrency sphere, such as serving as the Chief Scientist for Mastercoin – a platform that employs the Bitcoin blockchain for its communication protocol and digital currency.

Satoshi Nakamoto remains a mystery

To put it simply, the recent talk surrounding who created Bitcoin just serves as a reminder that we’re still unsure of who Satoshi Nakamoto really is.

According to Polymarket’s data, most people leaned towards “Not yet proven” rather than any definitive disclosure during the fourth quarter.
