Nearly a decade ago, a fantastic sci-fi show with a dark, alternate history setting premiered on Prime Video and quickly gained popularity with both audiences and critics. The whole episode finally answered all the big questions we’d been puzzling over all season about Tim Robinson’s character, Ron Trosper, but in the most delightfully weird way – it made everything we thought we knew feel totally wrong. Honestly, I was so relieved to hear HBO already greenlit a second season – I need to know what happens next!

This episode expands on the character of Mrs. Kersh, who was first introduced in the Welcome to Derry series. As fans may remember from IT: Chapter Two, It disguised itself as Mrs. Kersh to frighten Beverly Marsh. Now, we’re discovering more about her past. Lilly Bainbridge visits Mrs. Kersh’s home and finds old photo albums showing Mrs. Kersh as a young girl with a man who bears a striking resemblance to Pennywise, but without the clown makeup.
The story of It: Welcome to Derry begins with an argument between Ronnie and Lilly, who disagree about going back to the sewers. This fighting, along with other anger between the children, appears to be caused by the evil presence of Pennywise affecting the town. Pennywise also possesses Leroy, making him wrongly accuse his son of being responsible for Pauly’s death.
