One of the biggest PlayStation games is finally coming to Windows PC, but there's some bad news for fans

What you need to know

  • PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 first launched exclusively for PlayStation 5 on Oct. 20, 2023.
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming to Windows PC on Jan. 30, 2025.
  • The port is being handled with assistance from Nixxes Software, a PlayStation team specializing in PC versions of games.
  • Insomniac Games also confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will not be getting any story DLC, unlike the original Marvel’s Spider-Man.

As a seasoned gamer who has been following the evolution of Spider-Man games since the early days of web-swinging action, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally making its way to PC! After the exhilarating experience of swinging through the concrete jungle on PlayStation 5, I can hardly wait to do it all over again on my trusty gaming rig.

The iconic Marvel web-slinger is returning to PC next year.

At New York Comic Con, the collaboration between PlayStation and Marvel Games, as reported by PlayStation Blog, unveiled that Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be releasing on Windows PC on January 30, 2025. The porting of this game is being managed with help from the experienced team at Nixxes Software, a group that has also been instrumental in developing several other PC versions of PlayStation games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Ghost of Tsushima.

It’s been fantastic for our team at Nixxes to collaborate with Insomniac and Marvel Games in introducing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to a fresh PC gaming audience,” shares Julian Huijbregts, the community manager at Nixxes.

We’re thrilled to carry on our partnership and bring the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 game to PC, complete with an array of improved features such as advanced ray-tracing options that cater to numerous system configurations. Keep an eye out for updates on specific features and suggested system requirements as we approach the release date.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that the official announcement on the PlayStation Blog also verifies that there are no plans for further narrative content in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This indicates that unlike the first game, this sequel may not include any storyline downloadable content (DLC).

Following the occurrences in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues the story with Peter Parker and Miles Morales, who are now both Spider-Men. They grapple with juggling their individual lives alongside their superhero responsibilities. At the same time, Kraven the Hunter plots to transform New York City into his personal hunting ground.

One of the fastest additions yet to the PlayStation library on PC

In contrast to typical big solo PlayStation games which are initially released on consoles years before they come to PC, this situation is different.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 initially released for PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023, and by April 2024, it had sold a total of 11 million copies. Now, about a year later, the PC version of this game is being introduced, making it one of the quickest additions to the collection of PlayStation Studios games playable on Windows PC.

Contrastingly, God of War Ragnarok, debuted on PlayStation systems in November 2022, has only recently become available for PC users, specifically in September 2024.

While I understand that the news no story DLC is happening will be disappointing to fans, Insomniac Games is still staying busy, with the team currently hard at work on Marvel’s Wolverine.
