Fallout 76 is getting a giant snake raid boss — and we might see what radioactive fishing looks like soon

What you need to know

  • Bethesda Game Studios shared some updates on what’s coming to Fallout 76 during the Fallout Day broadcast on October 23.
  • The studio gave an overview of the upcoming raid in a new region called the Gleaming Depths, which includes multiple boss fights and challenges culminating in taking on a giant snake called the Ultracite Terror.
  • At the end of the broadcast, the studio also teased that fishing may be on the way to Fallout 76.

As a dedicated Fallout fan who has spent countless hours wandering through the irradiated wastelands of Appalachia, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement with each new update for Fallout 76. The prospect of adding pets to my C.A.M.P., especially considering Bethesda’s tease of more critters to come, has me envisioning a radioactive menagerie that would put any real-world zoo to shame!

There’s even more headed to post-apocalyptic Appalachia.

To mark the occasion of Fallout Day, Bethesda Game Studios, the developer, has shared some exciting news about upcoming features in Fallout 76. As previously mentioned, players can look forward to the addition of pets, with cats and dogs now available at player campsites. However, the developers hint that more types of pets might be introduced later on.

As we approach the finale of the upcoming region known as the Radiant Abyss, there’s a raid designed for seasoned players who relish challenging encounters that demand strategic cooperation. This climaxes with a battle against a colossal serpent called the Ultimate Menace. Additionally, they provided a sneak peek at the addition of playable Ghouls to Fallout 76, set to debut in early 2025.

Near the conclusion of the program, creative director Jonathan Rush mentioned he would be conducting further research on a new feature for the game, hinting strongly that angling may become part of Fallout 76 in the near future. Take a look at the complete Fallout Day broadcast here: (video link)

Fishing and fighting in radioactive Appalachia

It’s been impressive to see even more content updates lined up for the near future of Fallout 76.

I’m particularly thrilled about the introduction of pets in the game, as Bethesda hints at more types of friendly camp creatures beyond just cats and dogs. I’d find fishing enjoyable too, particularly if it involves tasks or competitions that tie into the game’s play mechanics.

As a fan, I can’t definitively say I’ll opt for the Ghoul playstyle when given the chance, but there’s no denying the allure of embarking on wild, feral adventures with fresh, enticing perks. The radiation immunity alone is a game-changer, promising to reshape every moment in the game. However, that newfound resistance might strain relationships with groups like the Brotherhood of Steel. Ultimately, each survivor must weigh the benefits and potential consequences before making their decision.

At the moment, you can play Fallout 76 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, personal computers running Windows, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. What’s more, it’s accessible via the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.
